Are there any outdoor climbing spots or indoor gyms in or around Omaha, NE? I'll drive a few hours if I have to.

There is a gym, and a nice group of people, in Seward. What's that about 2 hours? Long drive for a gym, surely there is a gym in Omaha somewhere. Anyone else?

Hi! I live in Omaha and although it's true--if you want "real rocks" you can either travel 2 hours to Kansas City or 3 hours to South Dakota/Minnesota! BUT....one of the jobs I have...is managing the climbing wall at Galyans located in OMAHA!!! They have a 48 foot climbing wall that is really fun! The YMCA also has a climbing wall and UNO. Driving around Omaha you will also find many retaining walls around apartment complex's...I think the term is "buildering". Have fun and hope to meet you sometime.. Ginger

Come down to Lincoln. The UNL campus rec. building has a pretty nice indoor wall. For outdoors there's Blue Mounds State Park in SW Minnesota, about 3 hours from Omaha. PM me if you need some people to climb with, there's several of us in Lincoln who are down for roadtrips.

Thanks for the help. I'm originally from Sioux Falls, so I know all about Palisades, some really cool routes but shitty quartzite. I'm moving to Omaha from Northern Cali. I'll have to say goodbye to this beautiful sierra granite and hope for something near Omaha to sustain myself. Energizer, is Galyan's a Rock Gym or does it just have the one wall? If so, there has to be a Rock Gym somewhere in Omaha, right? Please say yes. I'm begging you.

there is a program with the University of Nebraska at OMAHA. It is called the OVC - Outdoor Venture Center The program is specifically designed for students of UNO, but many 'general public' types also join us for all our activities. We do all sorts of trips from Kayaking, backpacking and rockclimbing & travel all over the country. Come join us for a class or too at our BRAND NEW huge climbing wall this winter, check out the program and see if volunteering with the program is your style! We are always looking for competent rock leaders. When you get to Omaha, go to the campus, and check out the office of the OVC in the HPER building. Talk to someone about the rock program and give them your name and they will keep you in the loop. You will of course have to 'prove' yourself to the program before you will be allowed to climb, lead etc, but we have to do that!!! Hope to see you in the wall this winter!!!
