I am looking for some place to do some trad climbing in January. Someplace warm. Any suggestions on where. I live on the east cost, but it may be just as easy to go West as South. I will need a guide to lead, as I am new to trad. I am also looking for suggestions on good guides.

Come on down to Chattanooga and climb at T-Wall. There's over 70 climbs in the 5.7-5.10a range. The wall faces the sun all day so it stays pretty warm(too hot during the summer). Mostly trad crack climbing with the FEW sport routes in the high 12's and harder. Don't know about a guide (ask Rock Creek Outfitters). I'm sure they could find you someone.

Joshua Tree!! It's warm, has thousands of routes, mostly trad, and good guide services there. And if you come to Josh, you're only 3-4 hours from Red Rocks, Nev (just outside Vegas) which is also another good winter destination. You could spend and entire winter bouncing back and forth between the two.

If you want WARM, J-tree and the rest of teh southwest is your best bet, but if you just want warmer than freezing, head to North Carolina. There are several places that are great for winter climbing. Looking Glass and Stone Mountain are a couple. I say, just dress warm and hit teh rocks where you are. If it's too cold and frozen buy some ice gear try another sport... Ice Climbing.

If you want to climb trad, come out to Indian creek, Utah. Its cold at night, but if you climb on the walls in the sun its perfect.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I need to go west. What's Yosemite like in the winter?

In reply to: Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I need to go west. What's Yosemite like in the winter? WHITE and COLD! R Rocks, and J Tree are your best bet but Southern AZ has some possibilities for Trad/adventure climbing Babo, etc.
