Does anyone have any pointers on how to keep my rope from tangling every time I want to use it?

Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Iuse a rope bag for single pitches. Just drop and tie in. Usually works. It is ATC i find that really coil your rope when rapping

I usually have the same problem. The best solutions I have are:
1. When coiling your rope i prefer not to coil it mountineer style. Thats where you coil in a loop and finish it off with a wrap and overhand. It works but make sure you dont let any piece of the rope cross the loop. (Ive had many a time where the ropes got crossed and when i threw it over it got tangled.) Instead I use the butterfly, its twice as fast to coil. Its also hard to get this tangled up when throwing it over the cliff. Every time ive thrown it over the ledge it goes over nice and easy. Its a little hard to coil in one hand if you have a larger rope though.

2. As for rope bags they are great but just dont throw the rope in there cause it always gets tangled. Just be careful of how you pack and unpack it cause there are always little loops where the rope runs through itself and causes a bunch of sling knots.

this is going to sound totally whacked, but i just put my rope in a big pile on top of my rope bag tarp, tie the top end onto the strap so i know which one to grab, and roll the whole thing up like a burrito.

when you want to use it, just grap the top end and tie in.

i used to coil, and my rope tangled up every single time i used it. since i've been just dumping it in a pile, it has never (i mean exactly zero times) needed to be flaked out or untangled.

some ropes seem to be real bitches when it comes to knots, my mammut galaxy rarely knots up but that's because of the characteristics of the rope itself, I've seen other ropes that coil up like crazy

otherwise... don't use a figure 8, they coil ropes badly.

change your rope or you belay device is all I can suggest
which rope is it?
