Hi all,

One of my regular climbing partners will most likely be travelling to Sydney on a "business" trip at the end of December 2003. The trip is about two weeks long, and he would like to get in a good bit of climbing if at all humanly possible. He's been climbing for about two months, and does not lead trad or sport yet - he is good on TR belay, very safety-conscious, learns quickly, great laid-back attitude. I may be going along, if I can swing the trip/his GF doesn't go; I lead up to about 5.5 trad (Aussie 12/13) or 5.7 sport (Aussie 14/15).

Any beta on easy-to-moderate routes (5.3-5.8 Gunks Y.D.S - 11-15/16 Aussie), including location (nearish to Sydney - he'll have a car, camping gear, and the desire to get around), trad/sport/TR, recommended gear, and possible inexpensive places to stay would be very much appreciated. Please feel free to contact me via PM or e-mail.

Thanks in advance.

Tai

Dates?
Check out

www.sydneyclimbing.com

but I think the Blue Mountaisn are going to be your best bet at that time of year.

If you get the chance, go to Araps. You will not regret it, there are a lot more classic climbs at the grades you're talking about. It will be very hot though, and 13 or so hours from Sydney.
