I am headed up to Delaware Water Gap around Thanksgiving. I have fine assortment of cams, nuts and hexes. I spend most of my time out west on splitter craks so I have no tri-cams as of yet. I don't have a good deal of money so I would like to purchase as little as possible. I will only be climbing 5.6-5.8 and I would feel pretty comfortable free soloing that. I only need a few tri cams. What are the most used sizes up there in the DWG. Thanks

2 Pink (0.50) Camp Tricams
1 Red (1.00) Camp Tricam
1 Brown (1.50) Camp Tricam
The brown is optional, but I have placed it before. In Canada, these run about 13$ CDN each, so in the states, that's like 8$ each. Money well spent even if you only use the large one 1x.

You can probably get away with out buying any tri-cams, though it's always nice to have them when nothing else fits. I've done a fair number of the mid grade climbs at the DWG and I think I've placed tri-cams maybe 3 times, nuts and cams being my prefered method of protection. But since you did ask what sizes to get I'll agree with everyone else who already posted. 1-2 Pinks, 1 Red and 1 Brown (optional). The one piece of equipment that is essential for the belayer when climbing at the DWG is a helmet. Not just rocks come down, dirt, branches, and killer acorns just to name a few.

I will be heading to the DWG and am wondering what ranges of cams will be best to bring along? Are tri-cams highly recommended?
