My favorite is leading and setting a top rope, then someone comes by and asks "How did you get the rope up there?" I just look them straight in the eye and tell them I have a pet eagle. You'd be surprised at how they actually look back at me not sure if I'm joking.

Some people walking by... "How do you get that rope up there?" Me... "Rope-gun!" My partner... "We shoot it up there." That one gets crazy looks every time, especially when you say it with a straight face, totally serious... duskerhu

overheard newbie question to a not quite graduated newbie "So when you lead climb, do you use mainly dynamic ropes or static ropes" " Mainly dynamic ropes, the static ones can give you a good jolt when you fall!" After hearing that conversation i left the premises
