Anybody out there aware of what the civilian access is for the sport area at West Point (not during competetions)?

Only if you're an INVITED guest, i.e., for a competition or climbing with a cadet. If you've never been there, the wall is extremely hard to fine, and nobody except for the climbing cadets know where it is. This is the official policy.

Thanks - that is kind of what I was expecting to hear. I do know someone who has been there for a competetion and knows where it is, but are the potential consequences (if there are any) of climbing there without permission worth it, or not worth it?

I think your best bet is to contact and climb with a cadet. Try searching on google for their web site: West Point Mountaineering club, rock climbing club, or something like that. They're a pretty cool easy going bunch.

It's not that hard to find...just walk along the RR tracks, by the river until you start seeing bolts. It's a pretty crappy crag. For starters, it's all man-made (a road-cut), and there is a bunch of black paint all over the rock.

Contact the mountaineering club advisor, I believe he did all the work on the crag and he's very excited about it, so I bet he would show you around.

Dude, don't bother. The routes there suck.

Oh contraire, I liked the routes! :D Lots of nice side pulls and lie backs. Worth a visit now and again.

And yes, that's Lynn Hill climbing at West Point.

As long as you walk up the RR Tracks from the south, there will be no problem with anyone bothering you. You can come any time too. The people that climb down there are very cool and they like to have others come and climb. If you need a guide PM me and will get it to you.

here is the team's website:

I appreciate all of the beta. If I go, I will take the advice about ID. I used to mountain bike at an Air Force reserve base, and after Sept. 11, we would be escorted off if we were caught. Those experiences just made me a little weary.
