Any ideas for the best things to "practice" when Mother Nature isn't in favor of spending the weekend climbing? (I spent last weekend pondering John's comments on learning to exist in the chaos without aiming to change it while (paradoxically?) engaging in my bi-annual housekeeping effort.)

You can always practice developing the Witness position. When you interact with your significant other, say in the heat of a disagreement, can you NOT react and become defensive? The ego wants to be right and prove the other person wrong. Can you keep attention focused on problem solving? arno

practicing the principles and having them in practice in our daily lives sounds like a great idea. meditation seems to be helpful to me right now - and going with working on the witness idea - i borrowed an exercise we used in the WW course. i go outside while it's still early and i sit down and i shut my eyes and i listen to all that surrounds me and i pick individual things out and work at seeing with my heart instead of my eyes. it really seems to help me observe and use the witness position. meditation also helps with the breathing as well - thank you arno, i had forgotten we can use these principles effectively OFF the rock as well as ON it. the principles seem to come in handy in all areas of life - whether you are at home or at the crags. thanks.
