I just wanted to know how many all of you can do. If you dont know what one is, is a modified pull up. I dont feel like explaining the whole thing. I just started to do them instead of pullups and just wanted to know what you guys do cause i need something to set a goal on.

Frenchies are as follows. You have a pull up bar and hang from it for 5 seconds (well thats the recommended time.) Then you lift yourself up 45 degrees, hold for 5. Then lift your self up to 90, then up another 45 each step holding for 5 seconds. You finally end up when your hanging your chin over the bar and descend holding every 5 seconds where you last held. From hanging to holding yourself above the bar there should be 5 motions of holding(more or less if you want) Hope this helps

aye! maybe they are gay
but we'd might not see truth till
some other day.

I came upon this thought while i sat on a bail of hay
I sat there bewildered in a thought of dismay
How can the french be gay?

I sit and I pray
to keep the gay at bay
for I would not want my children to be at a disarray
to find that a gay had turned their world to grey

Can you just think of being the prey
of a butt hungry gay?
I suppose one day
you shall see my way
for i cannot let our futures decay
Okay?

lol im done. I have too much spare time.
No gay's were ment to be insulted by this post, for i fear my pocket money will fray

Should this be put in the post of the best poetry of all time?

Ingonorant Americans!
Why all of a sudden do you think that you can affilliat any country, race, or group with being gay.
i'm sure you would all be pissed off if i started telling everyone that All Americans are Hicks/Rednecks!
and another thing. as an Ontarioain, and a Canadian, please do not think that the French in Quebec and the French in France are anything alike. a lot of Quebecers like to think so, but the French in France laugh at the idea that the two are even close. In fact, i have heard some people in France call Quebec an "Impure variasion".

so please. don't be fools. you can offend people with out meaning to.
Kevin.

And to use the word "gay" as a putdown is evidence of either cluelessness or prejudice, ya know?

I told you i was going with the flow of replys. And anyways, even though the french dont come out and say it ive been to france and have seen how ignorant you have been to americans. A hell of alot of French were really rude to me just because i was american and wouldnt even give me the time or service. Also there was a movie out which im sure you have seen - Les Americans? Making fun of how annoying American tourists are.

I can do 5 frenchies in one set, and need atleast 4 minutes to recover enough to do more. 3 sets of 4 or 5 frenchies is about it for me though.

At first I did not bother to post into this forum, from the simple lack of explanation of what a 'frenchie' was. Now that it has been briefly explained, it is now that I must interject with an opinion.

I have never heard of these 'frenchies' though they seem to be quite useful, and strenuous as well! I think I'll go try some now on my finger board. I find it very strange however, that I have never heard of such things before, especially the name that you have so unusually given them.

'Frenchies'? Whatever, they sound good enough to use, and I'll make a not of doing them on my way to the finger board.

In response to woodse and mountainrat's question, there is another way to do frenchies.

Do one pull up and hang in the "up" position for 7 seconds. Lower all the way down, pull all the way up and lower back down until your elbows are at 90 degrees. Hold that for 7 seconds. Lower down, pull all the way up, and lower back down until your elbows are about 120 degrees. Hold that for seven seconds, lower all the way down and you are done with one set. If possible, attempt to continue doing the reps, if not, rest and repeat. Be careful, over time this can really abuse the tendons of the elbow.

Enjoy

Basically frenchies (I really dont know where they got the name. Maybe a technique used by the french) can be any modified pullup where you hang your weight on the arms. Whether you do hang, 90 degree, and then over the bar and back down; or if you ad a few 45 degree angles and complete pull ups in your sequence, it really doesnt matter. Just as long as you have the hanging principle in effect.

Just got back from the finger board a few moments ago. 'Frenchies' are very difficult! I could not even complete one of these movements. (I fell upon the last 5 second section of the 30 second movement).

It also depends. I do the frenchies on my pullup bar so they arnt that hard on my fingers. It also depends on how many steps you go through for the entire motion. Like i said some people do hang,45,90,135,180 and back down. Others do hang,90,180 and back down. Doing it on the fingerboard is a real challenge though. Kudos to you if you can do it!

Girls can crank too you know-I'm only small andI can do a set of 5 "frenchies" or whatever they're called
then I die for about ten minutes and then I start again.
I can do about 3 or 4(on a good day) sets!
Mwah ha ha ha ha!!!!

I dont really care much about doing pull-ups but its always nice to burn off the big huge guys twice your size and age at gym .espeicially when they're doing their "look how many of these funny pull-ups I can do" thing and they think they're so great and then this lil fifteen year old girl comes along and burns them off! ho ho, you should see the look on their faces. its worth it!
I also agree with the thought that if you can do a million pull-ups it means you're good at doing pull-ups , not neccassairly good at climbing.
(sorry about the spelling)

I do the Frenchies you described on 02/25/02. Sometimes with weight. I use a chin-up bar on some occasions and a crimper board on others to develop contact strength which is vital in climbing.

I like them because it develops the endurance needed in your lats and forearms on a hard clip or placement or just hanging out while confused on a route deciding when you are gonna fall and take that whipper. Since I like roofs, frencies are my friend.
