I am looking for a compact camera for climbing. I already have a Cannon EOS 650 with multiple lenses I use for most / some of my photos. What I am looking for is a small - pocket size camera I can use to take decent pictures when I don't have or want to haul the big setup. My wife would also use it for family photos. I'm looking to spend $250 pr less. Let me know what your sudgestions would be.

I have had great success with the Olympus Stylus Zoom. Super-small, super-light, AND it takes great pics. here is the link to one of them.(If the link doesn't work, go to my photos and check out "The Palisades" and "Sawtooth Ridge".) Both of these were taken with the Stylus and I have them enlarged to 16x24 and they look good. Well within your budget, too. Hope this helps.

I second the Olympus Stylus Zoom. I have the 38-80. I use it as an alternative when a monster SLR isn't practical. Don't let its sleakness fool you...this camera is bombproof. The 38-80 is a perect size for taking up a wall. You can through it in your backpocket, yet it still has enough zoom so you can crop a decent picture. They also make a slightly bigger model a think it's a 38-115 or something. The zoom is bigger but it's more expensive and you also got more of a camera to deal with.

I am pretty happy with my Minolta Zoom 150. That's a lot of zoom for a small, light and compact camara. IT's made of stainless steel. It has an exposure compensation when you override the flash. Panoramic is included, It has many modes available. IF you would like to see some of the pictures I've taken check out www.Fragilesummit.com and then check the climbing section. Half of the pictures were taken with a SLR minolta XTsi.

My friend was in Chile for a few weeks trekking and she took some nice pictures with the minolta zoom 150. Check www.geocities.com/fragilesummit/kath/kath
for her pics.

Peace

Ray
