I forget where i saw this post but someone said they knew of people that live by the grand canyon and said that they really dont choose to climb there. For some reason which i forget they went to other places to climb. You might want to research it a little.

Just from a rather unexperienced perspective but i would think rockfall would be a rather serious danger.

Yeah, the Grand Canyon is mostly sandstone, and not too good for climbing. People get hurt falling down the trails. Also, I think the NPS doesn't allow climbing in the G.C. because it is an environmentally sensitive area.

HERE IS A GRAND CANYON CLIMBING BETA SITE:

Basically, it says the rock's not too good and you have to remove all your gear (bolts even) and you can't use powerdrills.

Downstream of the Boulder Dam (Hoover Dam) the rock is much better, closer to granite (this is why they build the dam there). I have NO idea how to do the climbing, except to rap into the gorge, and climb your way out.

Big Wall: yeah, I guess rapping in is committing. Then again, there might be access roads into the gorge.

Rapping in? Now thats commitment. I hope you can climb your way out or you better leave a fixed rope so you can get out.
