I'm no mountaineer (brrrr too cold, give me desert rock any day), but I believe the general consensus is that K2 is more technically difficult. If anyone wants to knock me down for this, go for it.

I've heard the same thing. And, as we all learned from the "Vertical Limit" documentary starring Robin from Batman and Robin, K2 can be a tough mountain to climb when a storm hits and your partner is a summit-crazy millionaire Texan. I love documentaries... Anyway, the real question I'm going to find out this summer is how hard Mt. Shasta is! I'm sure it'll be way harder than pu--- Everest and K2.

It depends, the easyist route up K2 is much harder then the easist route up everest, but the Kangshung Face of everest is harder then the normal route on K2....but then again, then harder route up K2 is harder then the Kangshung Face. Personally, if i could summit one 8000m peak, it would be Makalu. The 8000m peak with the most deaths to summit's ratio is Annapurna. The one with the lowest Death to summit ratio is Cho Oyu. Well, to Answer your question, Everst has seen some 1172 summits, 165 deaths and 299 repeats. K2 had 164 summits and 49 deaths with only 1 repeate. the death to accent ratio for Everest is 14.1%, as for K2 it is a high 29.9. I know someone who summited K2 and was on Everest twice, but unable to summit because of weather. He told me that K2 was a lot harder. Everest doesn't have any hard technical climbing on the most used route. If someone was in good shape, had enough time, had enough money, and had good weather they could probably summit Everest.

I am sure (not 100%, cos i havnt climbed either of them) that it is K2. Thanx for all the stats beyond_gravity they were really interesting! Do you ice-climb? Power to the Polar dudes! I thought i'd dedicate this to them, as we dont hear much from the lonely regions of the south Pole etc...

Personally, I'd be happy to climb any of the 8000m peaks. And how 'bout that documentary Vertical Limit. Man, was that realistic!!

the savage mountain K2 I think is the harder mountain. I however give props to anyone who climbs any 8,000 mountain. I just hope that I can do it some day. [ This Message was edited by: oneballjay on 2002-03-09 19:12 ]
