Ooh... That sux. I tend to sprain my ankles a lot. I had a bad sprain last month from a hike in Red Rock. You're gonna want to do the R.I.C.E treatment like you always would. I stay off of mine for a couple weeks until I can bear walking on it for a while, then, I pop some Ibuprophen and go to the gym and climb some easy routes. I actually know a guy who broke his foot and was climbing in his cast... If you'd rather stay off of it for longer, strength training should keep you in decent shape. Hope your ankle heals soon!

woah dude ! really ? LOL ~ he was climbing in his cast ? hahahaha I'm still limping around. Sometimes i try walking for a distance. It does hurt like hell, but it's getting better and stronger though. Now that you've said it, i'm heading back to the gym for some practice next week. =) thanks for the advice ! :D

Stay off it as much as possible. Ice it as much as you can, but minimum three times a day for 30 minutes. See a physiothereapist for exercises which might assist in recovery, but will also help prevent the ankle from becoming arthritic in the future. Climbing, as long as you don't put too much pressure on it, may be helpful. The problem is if you fall on it and twist it again... then you're f*cked.

Go one-legged climbing in the gym! :D I'm serious... I fractured my foot a few months ago, and just climbed on the one foot in the gym. I only did it on toprope, but it keeps you strong and really works your dynamic power (Got some funny looks from other people though!). Besides that do pullups.

Search this forum on the web and treat it right...maintain flexibility, icing, I wish I knew the details to share. Treating a sprain right vs just letting it take care of itself can make weeks difference in your recovery time...and probably help prevent further re-injury. Hope you find ways to keep climbing! -Kate.
