I got a rope ratchet for 10 dollars the other day on impulse because it looked pretty neat0 and usefull for straigtening the Christmas tree. http://www.roperatchet.com The largest diameter version is supposed to hold something like 450 lbs. I was wondering if any of nerds with machinery skills have considered a bigger design of this device. I was thinking that with a stronger body and a way bigger spool, it could take som pretty hefty loads. Oh, and please don't try to hawk your wares. I don't need a salespitch.

I've got (well seen) some military grade ones of those that are much bigger, but the same design. My problem with it is it's TOO big, it's made out of some huge 1.5" rope and weights like 20 lbs. My dad uses them on the farm for med lifts for cows and such. Maybe they have a version somewhere in the middle out on the market, if anyone knows of one I'd be interested too. I'm not sure where my dad got them, part of his surplus shopping in the goverment suprlus warehouses so I'd have to assume military gear provided by some other supplier.

Yeah, As mentioned above, seems to work alot like the two versions of the Traxion from Petzl, a variation of the rock exotica wall hauler, and alternate to the prussik minded pulley, simular to the slackline bros tension system, and a spittin' image of about 1/2 the rescue equpment on the market (all but the load limit). Unless your hanging some flowers on your front porch woth that thing, I'd toss it!
