Hi climbers,

The only MAJOR CLIMBING ACHIEVEMENT in climbing history i am aware of, attained by a woman before a man (that is, an overall FIRST made by a woman) is the free climb of "the Nose" by Lynn Hill (still waiting a repetition, as far as i know).
Do you know any other case, or do you consider it the only one up to now?

Lynn Hills freeing of the Nose has been repeated by some guy over 200+ days or so. But then she did it free in a day and I don't think that has been repeated.

Amanda Tarr was the first person to solo The Hallucinogen Wall - VI 5.10 A3+ s
in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Not as famous as Lynn but still impressive.

Really? I was sure Hallucinogen had been soloed before, but not by a female.

I may be wrong. Going off of memory now which is always dangerous. The new black canyon guidebook has a story about it. I am pretty sure she was the first to solo it. I will double check when I get home tonight.

Once again atg200, you have proven that I don't know jack shit. I was wrong about Amanda Tarr being the first person to solo that route. If anyone is interested in the history of female climbers I found a good site with lots of information.

Check out the entry for 1999 to see that I was wrong.

Lynn Hill also did the FFA of Levitation 29 (5.11b) in Red Rocks Nevada WAY back in the day.
