Just imagine if companies made glow in the dark chalk, you could boulder or climb in the dark, as long as you chalked up the holds i the day, probably a dumb idea by me, but i think it would be something new.

... but a [i:afeb6e0ecb]better[/i:afeb6e0ecb] idea would be stadium lights!

maybe a big, paved parking lot; bathrooms, a concessions stand and ticket windows ...

i'm sure that would be GREAT for access issues.

how about we just spray paint the routes so we know which holds are on.

And maybe an elevator, so I wouldn't have to go to all that work of actually climbing.

It really is a good idea.

But some good ideas are not good in practice. An outdoor area with glow in the dark chalk would be a nightmare. Imagine all the chalk that is up under roofs adn overhangs that would NEVER stop glowing. adn when the chalk streaks from rain were all glowing, that woudl be nasty.

Come to think if it, chalk is nasty anyway. Stop using it and climb natural. Find the hold by skill. Climb in the dark by the brail method.

But ask your gym about black lights and glowing chalk, that would be hillarious.

Sure, while we're at it, let's ask them to poor some of that damned "smoke" they use in night clubs and bowling alleys so we can't breath either

no, that could be fun

Perhaps instead of glow in the dark chalk, we could find a way to attatch a beam of light to the top of our cranium. You know a lamp for your head. Hmmm, but what would we call it???

I wouldn't mind having to some glow in the dark chalk to screw around with in the gym... but I'll agree with everyone that it'd be a bad idea outside.

Your right.... I'm sure practices learned in the gym wouldn't be carried over to the crags.

I have to say that I like the idea, the rain will ease the glow, and I don't think the glow on the chalk can las forever.

So Bozeman rappers have a problem with rampant littering, huh? I assume you have already contacted your local authorities, maybe it's time for some national attention. Maybe the Serria club, perhaps Greenpeace can step in and show those linguists who's boss.

Scubasnyder, after reading some of your posts the last few days I feel
it's time that someone stepped up and let you know in your posts you
come across as an idiot. I don't think I've read one post by you that
actually added something useful to the discussion. I'm not trying to
flame you (or maybe I am...) and I know there's lots of pointless posts on rc.com (a few of them by me), but how about thinking about what you've typed every once in a while before clicking the submit button?

That would look pretty cool... but I don't think it can actually be done... must of the glow in the dark stuff have to be hit by light for a while so that they can work and they don't last that much... so if you use it while the sun is hitting the rock and wait until it is dark... the glow must've already worn off!!! :?

Hey TUCSONALEX, lay off my PA bud there :x . However, Scuba, you had to know you were gonna get nailed for this  . I think a better solution to the problem is a HEADLAMP. LOL, but for gyms it might look cool, I mean they have glow in the dark holds, which by the way make no sense to me because you can't climb in the dark, no one is gonna wear a headlamp in a gym, and if they ever turned the lights off in a gym to climb the liability would be tremendous. That said, I bet if Scuba developed this stuff a bunch of people would buy it, cause well, a bunch of people are idiots.

Rokshox, I'm just offering up a little constructive criticism. Scuba, you can take it or leave it, but some people on the site have a low tolerance for the type of meaningless banter that you post. I have no idea what you are like in person scuba, but I would not want to go climbing with your online persona.

The gym I go to used to do that for a little while. I think they called it "Cosmic Climbing"; they had crazy house music playing, and all the lights were out in the climbing area. Unfortunately, too many people claimed they didn't know about it and bitched and it was cancelled. (How friggin far in advance DO you have to advertise something like that...shesh...no lie, there were emails/posters notifying people more than a month before cosmic night.) I thought it was fun because it was novel. I certainly wasn't gonna try some hard-ass onsight lead, but TR was kinda cool with a headlamp cuz it forced you to pay attention to your energy because you couldn't rehearse the entire route. Oh well, I gotta give them credit for trying to mix things up a little....

I've seen glow in the dark chalk before.. but it ain't no climbing chalk it's just the normal blackboard kind of chalk.

I guess it's just too expensive and not worth the research on glowing climbing chalk. But its a cool idea....

You know what? Congrats to tucsonalex for having the nuts to say it. Without naming names, there are several users on this site that accomplish nothing more than making visits here less pleasurable. I'm not talking about people I've gotten into fights with or anything like that. I'm talking about the select few individuals that post nothing but drivel and seem to go to great lengths to make their posts unintelligible. Everyone is entitled to a few stupid posts; I've made my fair share. Still, I really feel that every member of this community ought to make an effort to contribute in a meaningful manner where they can (note: this means being confident in what you know as well as admitting what you don't know).

I'm sure I'm going to regret being so frank. I'm also sure that there will be people who will sift through my posts, point to this or that post, and cry "hypocrisy!" I'm comfortable admitting that I'm at an experience level where I rely on the resources available here more than contribute to them. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing that I didn't have to sift through so many thousands of posts that are little more than spray and postwhoring to get to the meat.

This site could be a really fantastic resource for beginners and experienced climbers alike, and I have great respect for the people that put in their own time to maintain it. Many users berate them and complain about all of the things that are wrong with the site, when the biggest problem with the site is many of its users.

Flame away. Or if you've got the balls that tucsonalex has, admit that you like the site for its information and power to reach huge numbers of climbers, but are sick of 90% of the posts being from trolls and postwhores.

Jesus, First of all, you people need to lighten up. Second of all, it isn't like Scuba is making nasty comments that aren't contributing, he is just being creative. It is people like you Thinksinpictures that make this site less enjoyable to visit. What did your post contribute, NOTHING. It is because of people like u that have forced me to start my posts by saying if you aren't going to comment something helpful on this thread, keep it to your self. Take a dump and relax that sphincter  :x
