"You got any Bob Marley?" followed by "What are we doing this weekend?" as a close second. 3rdly would be: "You want this lead?" DMT

No exactly a common question, but this guy at the top of a crag is looking at me setting up a top-rope and asks: "What if I cut it??" F.

In reply to: I was boulding once in this park and there were some kids playing on the top of the boulder. I over heard one kid whispering to another... Why is that guy taking the hard way up?? Then one of them pipes up and asks me Hey! Why are you taking the hard way up?? I reply Because its fun! Next thing I knew I was spotting 3kids clawing their way up the 7foot boulder. It really was fun! That reminded me of one of my rare bouldering experiences at Cooper's Rock (not really my cup of tea). A dad with two young kids stopped and watched while we were just traversing and goofing off. One of the kids asked if she could try, as well. The father very gently explained that it was dangerous, and that "those guys really know what they're doing." As if on cue, my friend Don falls on his butt with a thud. We waited as long as we could before erupting with laughter. mark

This isn't a question, but it always makes me smile when I think about it. A large school group walked by (second graders I think) when we were TRing once. I was walking back down to the base after setting the anchor so i was wearing my rack on a gear sling. One second grader said, "Wow. Look at all those keychains!" It occured to me that his idea of what my biners are is probably more correct than mine is, based on usage. Near the end of the munchkin train, I heard on of them exclaim to my friend, "Hey, can I have your autograph?" Just hope that the general public continues to hold those opinions about our sport. Otherwise, you'll find them on your favorite route next time you hit the crags.

In reply to: I was out climbing with my brother one day, in Elbsandstein, Germany where routes are protected with big ringbolts about 2.5 inches in diameter. We had just rappelled when a group of tourists walked by and one of them asked "Where do the rings in the rock come from?" and my brother, with a totally straight face proceeds to tell the following tale: "Well you know, all of this used to be an ocean. The tall rocks would stick out above the water surface. Then the Vikings came and put those rings into the rock to tie their ships to. Now you see, depending on the water level you have rings at different heights." And these people bought it! I had to turn away because I laughed myself to tears. G-Man too hilarious ! i m tired of ppl keeping to ask me - - where is rope that holds u from falling ? - did u see a movie, cliffhanger ? - how can you hear when u two climb together ? - oh i have to weightlift before i get stronger to climb... *scoff*

Since I'm a skinny girl, I get a lot of: "You look way too skinny to climb." "How can you climb if you can't do a pull-up?" "You still want to climb after having a baby? But you're a mommy now, mom's shouldn't climb... it's too dangerous!" And of course, "How Do you get the rope up there?" "Can what happened in Vertical Limit happen to you?"

I work in a indoor climbing gym, and do alot of kids birthday parties. This one boy in a group asked me once:"can we rapunzel from the top?" I asked him again what he said, and he repeated again:"can we rapunzel from the top?" Obviously he meant "rappel" down..........thought that was funny and kinda cute. :D

Climbing indoors one day... I am working the first couple moves on a boulder problem that is just past my ability... (around V4) After hanging a dozen different ways and still not getting to the second hold a little birthday boy (10 or so) comes up to me and says, "Are you just checking out the holds?" I say, "no, I'm trying to climb this" So he responds, "Want me to help you get up it?, it's not that hard." I says to him, "no thanks, I'll figure it out" SO he proceeds to throw himself on the wall in front of me and proptly fall off of a 5.2 jug haul. Undaunted, he gets back on 2-3 more times, struggling to hold on to a large 2 handed jug and move his feet up a foot or so. Fall, Fall, Fall. (mind you, I wanted him out of my way but this was moving slightly past very annoying to almost amusing) He looks at me, Looks at the wall and says, "I don't feel like climbing that, it's not fun" and runs off to the other side of the gym... Kids, sheesh.

By far the stupidest comment "Dude, have you ever seen Vertical Limit?" Just because I climb doesn't mean i see stupid questions, it's like asking someone who likes driving "Have you seen Gone in 60 Seconds???"

Don't you have special shoes Why wouldn't you attach the rope to the top of the wall before you climb Bouldering- why don't you walk up the otherside, it's easier than this one What is a rock course?

I get, "Are you crazy for wanting to climb?" answer - would I be crazier for not following a dream? " That is so dangerous!!" ans - and riding in a tiny little car with you driving isn't? " Have you ever hit the ground on a fall?" ans - shake my head and walk away. If I had I would not be here to answer that stupid @$$ question!!!
