In reply to: I think Ammon would have plenty to say about the sport. what sport?? slacklining isn't a sport. and I think it'd be considered much too alternative to appeal to yuppies, they don't have to spend enough money on it to make it worthwhile to show off with.

i just wish i was enough of a yuppie to jump on the bandwagon and start slacklining. wait, maybe if i start slacklining i can just be an actual climber/slacker posing as a yuppie and then i can be accepted by the law and med students... muhahaha

people all ways want to do the sport that seems more alternative, it makes them look more extreme and hence "cool." go to a high school and see how many people ski, then count how many people snow board. slacklining goes hand in hand with rock climbing so people want to try it so they look cool but that doesn't me that the people that try rockclimbing or snow boarding don't realy get in to the sport even if they started it just to look cool.

I think the new yuppie sport is ragging on yuppies to prove that you are in fact a cool insider. That or troll hunting. You can't be a real climber unless you have flamed at least 8 people who may or may not be trolls.

society, through media, has expressed that rock climbing is an extreme sport. Dont et me wrong, it is, but not the dramatized version hollywood has portrayed. Anyone I talked to about climbing has asked me if I had seen Vertical Limit. No, I havent because I know It will be dramatized and outrageous. Average Joe's and all the posers out there see this and actually believe its real. They want to feel adventure and excitement. They come out and want to belong. They see the community aspect of climbing and they get frustrated because they dont feel like they belong, SO they go buy the gear, wich pays the companies that WE buy from in buisness. Knowing how long our gear lasts, do you really think that if no posers bought gear they would stay in buisness? In conclusion: Posers are like the third wheel, you need them if one of yours breaks down.

I can't believe some of you are actually defending yuppies. Yuppies are scum, end of story. They are like a disease that slowely takes over and kills everything they get involved with and thus must be stopped at all costs. DIE YUPPIE SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111

I just had a thought, I guess I was being a bit naive in not thinking this before but I finally realised that some of you must be yuppies yourselves. You slowely build in numbers pretending you are dirtbag climbers until the day comes that you can take over the whole site and start threads on lattes, BMW's the latest Prada climbing threads and who's Mummy and Daddy hand out the most pocket money. The end is nigh.

In reply to: Why is it that as soon as anybody ELSE does something oh-so-kewl from our little world it suddenly becomes yuppie, cheapened, whatever? *grouchy* Just take a deep breath and think of something pleasant and positive. Feel better?

There are two sides to every coin. Poser and Purest. But don't forget, those who are attempting to make it mainstream are just trying to make a profit and a living. Your sense of self or identity shouldn't be tied to climbing or clothing any ways. Rather than choose the side of the coin you are on, flip it in the air. Can you dig it?

i climb and board (probly not very well at either) (i live in atl theres no snow and my toe is messed up so i havent dont much climbing lately.) any way i started doing both so that at least to me i would feel cool. it gave me a chance to do something that looks awesome and say yeah i know how to do that even though i only just know how but in actuality really suck at it. what im trying to say is who cares if yuppies do it or not. blowing out someone elses candle doesnt make yours burn anybrighter so just let them be pretty soon another thing will come along be it a new type of coffee at starbucks or some sport that a few kids in college just invented 3 months ago either way the yuppies treat it as a fad and will soon pass so let them enjoy their stay it probly wont last long and for the few that do stay i wouldnt call them yuppies anymore id call them climbers.

In reply to: I'm so excited about gettin flamed for this here I go... Seems to me that slacklining will never be anything more than another hippie convention sport like hacky sack, those things you spin around on sticks, or that thing you throw and it lands on a string. Most of these past times find good ground in high school, college, and dead/phish shows (oh and with climbers). I seriously doubt it will catch on the yuppie seen because 1) there is not enough gear to buy or 2) its too easy to fall down and go boom 3) if you suck at it you look like an ahole Hahahahahahahah!!!! Funniest thing all day!!!

Check out the back cover of the latest National Geographic. There's a great example of companies selling crap to yuppies by using the extreme sports angle.

In reply to: those guys who lived in a cardboard box in Camp 4 and subsisted for a summer on $4 and whatever they could scrounge and climbed every day didn't need Prana climbing pants or Patagonia windbreakers. those are the yuppies that sell that stuff.

Who gives a shit? Plenty of yuppies climb, I mean, just go to the New River Gorge. They are everywhere. Do they take anything away from the NRG climbing experience? NOPE!!! It makes no difference whether or not yuppies slackline, its still fun. Same with climbing, there is nothing wrong with being a yuppie, if you are having a good time. JUST F_ING CLIMB or slackline or whatever.

Okay, I am dumb. Where is the connection between slacklining and climbing? I mean, if you are great at slacklining, are you really good at climbing? True I have never been to any of the major crags in the US besides Seneca and NRG, but even if I was chilling at camp and saw someone slacklining, I would never assume that person climbed. I would think he was practicing for the circus act or something. (I'm not putting down anyone who slacklines but I just don't understand it)

What a great thread and post. This is the type of excellent work that will be tough for the DIP Academy to overlook. Fanatstic work, this. [indigo]Come One, Come All !! Verily, Ye all are welcome to attend: [/indigo] DIP* Corp. Presents: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~2004~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~Renaissance User Awards~~~~~~~~~ drkodos internet productions (a division of Kodoscorp) not a sponsored event--this space available--find the hidden links Here is what last years Ceremony Host has to say: http://www.pscelebrities.com/alhead1.gif "Grandpa " Al Lewis of The Munsters here. I haven't had much work since teaming up with Fred Gwynne in that great show. Car 54 was OK but I guess was before most of your time, but I digress. When my best fiend drkodos came up to the attic and opened the coffin and asked me to host the awards, it was the biggest thing for me since my time on the Howard Stern show, or when I ran for governor. Anyway, I get caught up with all that but I'm here telling you to particpate and attend these very prestigious awards that my very dearest friend and his academy of lunatics are hosting. Click on this very message to hop through a magical portal. Similar to that time I brewed a concoction for Marylin.... And if you see that fink, Eddie, tell him to call once in a while.

People who spend countless hours bashing away at their keyboards, explaining why *they* are the real deal, and *they* aren't posers, are nearly as pathetic as the posers themselves. Who cares.
