dear slackliners,
i often set up my slackline alone, but i have a hard time getting it tight enough and i touch ground as i get to the middle. i'm a begginer and i'm the only person i know in colombia that does it (except for a few friends who learned with me) so i have no one to learn new tricks from. all i use now is the line and trees.
any tips from you all??

For your low line, buy a come-a-long hand cable winch, and be set.

Riley, thats the same reason I started selling solo-oriented slacklines. I too slack solo and I can set up a 50' (and longer) solid and super tight by myself if I want with my setup. I had a hell of a time with primitives before I went a different direction.
For a soloist pulley setups, ratchets, trucks or come-alongs are your friends - although they can be heavy/cumbersome depending on what type you use. That or learn to make a 6:1 / 9:1 mechanical advantage setups and use climbing rope and other tricks of the trade.
If you want to build your own, take a look at my kits on my site to see if it gives you any ideas, or if you want you could pick one of them off me for the same price as making your own (quite possibly even less).
At any rate, if you want to go with a 6:1 or similar setup, the instructions are already on this board, just do a search.

Clove hitch two beeners then go thru your end beener come back to one of the two go thru that one then back to the end beener.
Now go under the first weebing and pull tight. It will hold.
To get a three to one leave enough length in your excess to loop thru the second of the two beeners.
The friction of running the webbing under the end beener will keep it tight and with the 3 to 1 you can get it very tight.
I set it up solo everytime.

right now about 25-30 feet. My webbing is only 45 feet long.

That should be the perfect length to set up the systems people have been describing, with maybe 25 feet of walkable line. Have any of these posts been helpful?

Please read a few of the threads in this foum, as I and many others have given a step by step way of doing this. I tell how to do this with only two biners and webbing, and yet get a line tight enough to only have 1' of drop in 30'.

Here is just one from only a few threads down in this Forum:

Notice about only a foot of drop, and I weigh 180lbs. I have explained this setup in several threads in this Forum... In reply to: 1. Tie a small loop at end of rope with overhand. 2. Girth hitch around tree with loop. 3. Clove hitch in two biners with gates opposing about 4-5 feet from 2nd tree. 4. Pull tight around tree, clip one biner, go around tree in other direction, clip 2nd biner, pull tight with 3:1 mecanical advantage created (helps to have another pull on webbing coming from 1rst biner), finish with a mule knot around. With practice, you can put this up quickly (less than 2 minutes), tightly, and it will lie flat. If you are setting up a permanant one, after stretch is removed, it helps to get the line wet, and retighten. When it dries it will be like piano wire. The line I travel with is made with 50' of webbing and two biners, and I have done it between two trees 35' apart, and had as little as 2' of drop in that, and I like my line about waist high. Total set up time... 3 minutes. Total cost... $30.

I can setup up a slack rope with nothing more than webbing and 1 biner. I've Only done this with 25 foot of webbing, and I only weigh 135 lbs. It works for me. Tie an overhand(or figure8) in both ends of webbing. Girth hitch one end of the rope to one tree(the rougher the tree bark the better the hold). Take the other end of the webbing and wrap around adjacent tree making sure to keep the webbing VERY taught. Lastly when you run out of webbing to wrap around tree attach the biner through the loop you created with the overhand, and clip the biner back into the rope. I get about 5-10 inches of drop depending on how rough the tree bark is. But regardless, it always works. I'm now slackline expert, only been doing it for solo for 2 weeks now but and progressing quite quickly. Very very fun. I've found a new hobby!

I went to home depot and for $16 I bought a 1000lbs. strength webbing ratchet takes me about 30 seconds to setup my slackline and I can make it have 0 stretch. Two biners cost what about $10 give or take...
