Well really it would be mostly bouldering but some climbing. Im taking a trip to Colorado for a few months this summer and plan to take my handycam to catch all the action. Im not a great climber, but not a bad climber either. So dont expect to see real hanece problems be unfolded, but you are guranteed to see me go balls out! Really you will see anything form V4-V10 The areas I plan to film at are, Boulder Canyon, Rifle, Chaos Canyon, RMNP, Monestary, Maybe the Fortress, Lumpy Ridge. Basically anywhere around Estes. I got someone that is a killer editor, and has agreed to help me out
I plan to only charge like a couple bucks over what the DVD cost. And it will be pretty long is my guess. Is this a stupid idea, if so shoot me down, but if not, id appriciate the opinions.

hey, it might turn out ok... only itīs a bit harder than just an editor, you need a producer and a little of marketing.

Yeah. I dont plan to be a big huge production company or anything, just a little motivating video to get people pumped up to climb. THe vid will probably only cost like 7 or 8 bucks. But in my opinion i think it will be pretty sweet. The editor that will help me out has produced one other climbing video that was pretty sweet.

Well, I've got tell you...if I was going to buy a climbing vid it would be something professional with good reviews, not something shot by an ameteur on his vacation. (no offense intended)

but that's just me

Maybe post a few clips from your video when you get it done. Then let everyone decide. If it kicks a$$, then I'm sure a few people would shell out $7.

Thnaks for the input. And I understand also about buying vid's form big time companies w/good reviews. But this is just going to be a coulple guys living out of a van, and just pure, raw climbing. It will be great for those that just want a dose of what colorado stone has to offer. And also for the locals maybe. I dunno.

It definitely takes more than an awesome editor to make a video. In my opinion the video is only ever going to be as good as the camera-man. So unless you already have an experienced cameraman in your crew, I'd brush up on some of those skills and study other vids if I were you. Either way, good luck and have fun.

I might buy it, likely, especially if it shows what dirtbagging is all about, and isn't just footage of people climbing.

Just please, please, please, don't set it to the "pounding beats" of techno.

Thanks for all the replies again. That is a good idea by the way to show the true meaning of dirtbagging. I will try to incorporate that in the footage. and I Will try to have good songs for the vid. If you have any music suggestions please share tem with me.

Your video might be quite good. I'd argue that most of the videos out there were made by rank amateurs yet some people still bought them. Go ahead and first make the video out of fun and passion fo yourself. Then, if you think you have a good product, offer it for sale. You might surprise yourself about how good it is.

Go for it.....for more reasons than one. it will be something that you will be able to look back on later on in life. It will be a great way to document a time in your life...You have to start somewhere. Where do you think Paul Dusako and Josh Lowel started. Inertia 1 looks like it was shot with a handycam. Inertia 2 camerawork is better.... Your work might inspire you. Personal preference...i hate the videos with"jackass"-like segments, drunk/high guys laughing like beavis and butthead. yeah, yeah it is part of the lifestyle, i watch climbing videos for the climbing..

good luck. send me a trailer if you can, or post it. would love to check it out. oh yeah, good music is a must.

i would buy it, to answer your question

I would probably buy the vid if you were shooting in a different area. It would be awesome to see a video shot in a less-known place like So-Ill or Rocktown or something like that. There is definately way too much out there already about that area in Colorado.

I may be interested in something like this. I'm taking some of the kids from the climbing team I coach out to Utah for a few days over Easter and we've had similar discussion about videotaping the trip, in part for our own enjoyment, in part for the sponsors of kids on the trip. One thing we've all agreed on, and I'll echo someone else's request: no techno... it's intensely overdone and has gotten me personally to the point where I mute the sound and watch the climbing. The conversations and sounds of where you are most likely going to be great by themselves anyway, just beware the electronica trap! :)

For that price, it might be worth it.

However, a real necessity (imo) is that you have at least two different angles that each climb is shot from. (unless none of the climbs take longer than, say, 15 seconds. To me, that makes a video look much more professional. Maybe I just get bored quite quickly with just one static shot of somebody spending 5 minutes slapping their way up the latest V-super-de-duper-hard rock. But, $7-8 might be worth it regardless.

With your sony handycam?!?!? No...Get a better quality camera before you start to sell your product...For relatively cheap nice equipment look into a GL2 or something of the equivilant...and take a class on its use before you shoot!

Geez, the last time I looked at a GL2 was a year ago, but I'm sure the retail price hasn't dropped too much from its original $2,500.00. That's a lot to spend on a camera if you're not completely into the art of filming. You can still shoot a worthwhile video for 7 or 8 bucks with your Sony Handicam. It would probably help if you don't have any experience in filming to at least pick up a book at the library. But, the main point is that you don't need a $2,500.00 camera to shoot a good video. If nothing else, you'll learn a lot more about your technique from shooting with a simpler camera. Have fun.

Maybe don't take yourself seriously in the video. Like don't wear any pants. Or boulder in an aid rack. Or pop up and push your buddy off the top of the boulder using the heel of your hand on his forehead right before he tops out. Piss in a jug (not an important one, of course) and have your buddy try to "dyno" to it.

An entertaining climbing video I would buy, even if it wasn't totally professional. But don't kill anyone or be irresponsible or be a bad example bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

-Kate.
