I know its raining right now, but the forecast for this weekend looks stunning for virtually all of the East. I was interested in climbing at Franklin. Anyone know what the conditions are like. Is it wet? I've only been there once before. Does it get much sun? Would I be better off going to the New? It's almost two hours closer to franklin, so I'd rather spend my time climbing than driving if possible.

thanks!!!

Franklin usually dries out quickly because it is limestone and gets a good amount of sun and wind. Despite it sleeting there today, if the weather develops according to the current forecast, you could find pretty decent conditions this weekend.
No guarantees.

Hi-

Franklin is mostly dry as of today (feb 26). Most of the crag get some sun and will probably be pretty good over the weekend. The main area has a few areas that are shaddy, and a few that are sunny, though the temps will probably make it good enough for either day.

If you head down stream to the River's Bend area (all limestone, as opposed to the lime/sandstone mix in the Franklin propper) it is all south facing and is warm nearly all day. It has a few routes that climb run off/streaks but I have on seen a few of them that ever get totaly unclimbable, but there are always climbs that stay dry there.

Hope that you get out to the crag!!!...it looks to be awesome-

cheers

It should be great. Eastsider and Myself will be heading down to the bend sat. You are welcome to join. Even the water streaks dry by the midday if sunny due to the south facing direction. also, if is to be as warm as they say, the riverbend will likely be shorts temps.

Franklin will be fine. The only thing that may still be a little moist is the occasional step on the trail. Even that would be stretching it. I was there a few days last week, and spend alot of time there throughout the summer.

If anybody's going down there Sunday, and doesn't mind a 3rd, let me know. I was going to head out, but my partner had to bail. I'd still like to get out.

Enjoy the east coast weekend, everyone, it's going to be NICE!!

I'm definately headed down this weekend!!

One more question...
Is there an easy camping option anywhere closer than Seneca? Paying isn't an issue, but free is always nice!!

People "unofficially" camp right in the old river bed at Franklin. Especially around the bend. However, I don't know if I'd risk the local hillbillies paying you a visit. You'll see their empties and spent condoms lying on the ground where you park. A visit to Yokum's may just be your best bet. That way you've got facilities, too. I'd offer, but I'm a good 2 hrs away.

Mind if I join you on Sunday?
