Hello all,
I currently live in Oakland and my girlfriend and I were considering spending the summer (June, July, and August) living in Tahoe (beats driving up there every weekend). Is this the same idea that everyone has, thus making jobs and housing impossible to find? We would like to live near Tahoe City or Truckee (but we are open to other places) and are fine/expecting to work in restaraunts and/or outdoor stores. Any information or leads about the availabilty of jobs and sublets this time of year would be greatly appreciated.

It might be kind of hard to find a job mid-summer...that's when all of the skiiers want to work full-time. If you look at tahoebonanza.com or tahoe.com there is info about jobs in the classifieds as well as info about housing opportunities. I would suggest getting on the job hunt early. Also, it might be worth considering living on the Nevada side, as we have no income taxes. I live in Incline Village, and Tahoe City and Truckee are within 20-30 minutes of my house. Basically, everything is relatively close to eachother around the lake.
Just move; it's worth it up here...

Thanks for the response and for the URL's, I had been looking for some good sites to check things out on. Do you (or does anyone) know what the sublet scene is like in most places? We have a trip planned in the fall so we don't want to get involved with a year lease - is it an easy town to find summer housing in?

I think it is possible to get a few monts' rent, although I would imagine that it would be pretty expensive. I have only done 6 month and 1 year leases, so I really couldn't say for sure. I'd bet, however, that there are places like that available. Try BRAT Realty in Incline Village & see if they might have some ideas. It might just be possible to work something out with an owner...

Tahoe.com has all the job listings. Send your resume to the casinos/restaurants, even if they aren't listing in the paper.
You also wont have a problem getting a 6 month lease around here. Don't rely on the internet classifieds, look up "apartment" in the Tahoe phonebook(or online) and call them directly. If you are thinking about South Lake, I can provide some possible contacts for rentals.
