Based on an idea I had in this thread, I thought I'd see if other techie types found this one interesting: To what operating system would you trust your life? It's the year 2005. Thanks to state governments waking up and preventing the teaching of creationism during science class, technological advancement has gone through the stratosphere. One recent advancement was born from the realization that the human body is imperfect and fails often. Bodily functions and thought can be transferred to a machine. This is a government-mandated law to ensure the survival and growth of the USA. You've got to go through and get yourself uploaded into a computer. The one choice that the government gives you: What operating system would you like your new body to run? My personal vote would be OS/400. Others? Any PalmOS takers? How about Debian Linux? Any suicidal types for Windows 3.11? Andy

Great idea! Apart from anything else, problems with power supplies and time zones would confine robo-merrican dunderheads to their own island and prevent them from terrorising the world into agreeing with their policies. Still, since only a fifth of americans have passports anyway, it wouldn't make too much difference...

I would have to say OS/400 as well. In the 2.5 years I have worked on this Box it has never had a single problem. No lock ups. No hardware failures of any kind. No crashes. No hacking. No lost data of any kind. It has run perfectly. Although I to say. I would need to really weight interactive processing over batch. Like 95-5 ratio. And got to the high processing feature available. It would be the only way to keep up with my ADD. as for everything else...... In that time my windows systems have crashed hundreds of times. Had multiple hardware failures, needed to be completely reformatted and reinstalled, lost 40 gigs of movies and data on one drive alone. My Linux box has crashed Gimp at least 300 times. Needed to be reloaded 3 times. Crashed Gftp many times. Heck even Emacs has crashed on me. (PHUCK redhat) Our Windows 2000 ecommerce server has crashed weekly due to OS issues. Our Windows NT printer server has to be rebooted every Monday to prevent memory overflows. And as for Dos I demand to much compatibility and versatility of my body and mind to restrict my self in such a manner. Anyway, since every operating system out there was invented in the US, I doubt we'll have much problem moving around when we want. We'll just load that extra font set and bring a few power adapters. Interesting point regarding the passports. Maybe that's because you can stand on our "island" and walk 4000 miles or so to the other side of it AND STILL BE IN THE SAME COUNTRY, not to mention speak the same language: Spanish. Ladder Logic. (or machine language) Wire it (or program it) right once and it runs forever! Or untill you blow a fuse  You have to be a god to write code for it though.
