what type of rock is on offer? mainly granite - not too rough and not too smooth around here what are the crags like? most crags are easily accessible by car/public transport although most require some walking to get into. Most crags have about 10+ routes on.. most sport climbs in hk are about F6a and up. There aren't too many lower grade sport routes although there are some trad. They aren't too busy... mainly all single pitch climbs although there's some multi-pitch routes.. a mixture of trad and sport multipitch are littered across the area. They range in size from 30ft to about 300 or 400ft. Although some big traverses of up to 1000ft or so exist. sprot / trad? Mixture... most people say 'leave your trad rack' but there's quite alot of trad routes around here so I'd recommend you to bring a rack if you have one... kowloon peak has a mass of traditional routes.. there's plenty of both sport and trad here although is it hard to find partners? not too hard.. hang out in the right spots and you'll pick up some. Some of the indoor bouldering gyms are a good place to go (i.e. Climberland) is gear easy to purchase and prices? a little bit more expensive than overseas but there are quite a few shops to pick up gear... Chamonix, RC Outfitters (www.alink.com.hk) Mountain Services.. basically a range of everything from camping needs to mountaineering goods whats the climbing in other parts of china like? not too sure on this.. but Yangshuo in China is a good area to go. There are big routes in the Tian Shan's.. Hope this helps.. any more questions feel free to post some up

In reply to: is gear easy to purchase and prices? a little bit more expensive than overseas beg to differ on this front - HK sells the cheapest climbing shoes on the globe - go to Chamonix, tell them you've got a VIP card, get 20-25% off the marked price (which is already dirt cheap) and away you go other stuff is pretty much bog standard price for a year you'll have a whale of a time in HK (just lon enough that you won't start getting bored of revisting the same crags again and again (which gets a bit frustrating after almost 5 years...........) check out www.hongkongclimbing.com - pretty much everything you need to know is covered there
