I actually think about this quite often. I personally plan on meeting (sleeping on the floor of) as many of the regular site users as possible. It's great to have friends near all those distant crags

Once the site got more mainstream in the climbing world then I imagine we'll start to see rockclimbing.com regional events/gatherings or something like that. It's a cyber club but there ain't no reason we can't eventually take it to the streets.

Just speculating of course.

i don't think a meeting of all the members would ever happen (many members are very young, under 18), but that's not to say that meeting a few won't work. i would suggest some big climbing event like the Pheonix Bouldering Comp in Arizona next year because i'm sure many people that go to this site reguarly are going to be at that event regarless.

one of my best friends in the world is a climbing Hippie named Brian Kimbal, i have climbed with TONS in the last two years, and plan on climbing with for many many years to come. i met him on AOL in a Chat room a long time ago, and then we were friends and talked via Instant Messager or e-mail for almost 2 years before we actually met for real (we met by random coincidence in Rifle two summers ago, it wasn't a planned meeting).

OK, let's get the ball rolling. First item on the agenda is location. Denver has been mentioned. Another option is Salt Lake City. SLC is easy to get to by air or ground. So... If you are serious about this, drop me a private mssg or e-mail (medic245@mindspring.com) and let me know which location you prefer. After two weeks, I'll tally the results, post them here, and then we can look at finding a good weekend that fits schedules.

Oh, yeah... count me in.

Best,

JRB

That'd be so cool, to be able to match faces with usernames... what a thought. That'd be really hard to organize, though, and I'm under 18 (as was mentioned above) and wouldn't be able to travel very far.

I'll be heading to CO and UT (as well as a few other places) sometime this year...so either would be fine with me!

Utah! I can house people, and live close to Maple Canyon and Rock Canyon and American Fork Canyon, and just a bit over an hour to Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake.

Count me in.

Another idea would be to have regional meetings (in case some people can't make the entire meeting).

In case any members in the northeast area are interested in a regional meeting, I live in the Boston area but I can/will travel if such a thing was ever to happen.

Happy jumaring,

I also think it should be done by region. There should be one specific date in which all climbers get together at different locations and climb. For example, New England climbers meet in Rumney, Cali. Climbers meet at El Cap. and so on. That way we can all attend and all climb. Also, pictures can be taken and posted on rc.com

Well, that is my two cents.

I think you'd have more success organizing regional meetings... personally I'd drive to the Red River Gorge to meet some people (plus Miguel's is a great place to meet people anyway's!!) but I can't get time off of work to go much further. (I live in the glorious mountains of Indiana)

rc.com bash..great idea..
Maybe we should hold one in Europe on the same day...get all the Euro climbers together, have a right ol' jolly , get together and climb - PARTYYY!

Or maybe we should all just come over and give it some in the US. .

Ahhh..as long as the you got warm weather, beautiful rock, beautiful locations, yeah...that would be sooooo cool!

CLIMB ON! (Thats why we're here)

Hi!

Seems, to me...this idea is catching...Read up on the West Coast Forum on Joshua Tree.

Idea is great. As was the hostle/tour idea.
I think so far, people are hooking up left and right, here. Regional is a good idea. Just allowing others to plan ahead...save $$... get time off.

I'd be all for it!

Just a suggestion, but what about Phoenix?? It is going to be in the mid-high 60s all week, I'll even venture to say all WINTER and it is 1 hour away from Queen Creek (where the Phoenix Bouldering Comp is held). All of the sport, trad and bouldering you can do in a month, let alone a weekend.

I'm all for getting something together in Utah, I planned on making a trip there anyways. So lets start thinking of dates and stuff!!!! This would be sooooo much fun. Maybe even get a couple of big name sponsors, like Sportiva and Rock & Ice, they could cover the event. And definetely get a Utah microbrew company to be onsight! This could be soooooo sweet!!!

Seems there is real interest in this idea. Let's hope it continues....

So far, the tally is such:
Utah: 4
Regionals: 4
Others: 2

Cast your vote....it will matter.

Best,

JRB

OK, some more info for y'all to digest. I did some searching on the web, looking for airfares/hotel rates/etc. I did all this searching with Orbitz.com (disclaimer: I don't own Orbitz stock, get no incentive for any purchases, blah blah blah... I've used Orbitz in the past, and have always been satisfied with the results. 'Nuff said.)

Anyway, picking April 18th - April 21st (somewhat arbitrary dates....Flying is cheaper during the week, and I assumed few of us can take more than 1-2 days off work. Also, it is my understanding that Utah climbing is best in spring/fall, as the summers get rather hot, and winters rather cold,) I looked for the cheapest fares I could find. All of the fares below are flying into SLC on the 18th. Origin locations are shown. Prices are approximations, and in American Dollars.

New York, NY -- 250
Boston -- 380
Pittsburgh -- 380
Chicago -- 330
St. Louis -- 250
Atlanta -- 250
Houston -- 300
Denver -- 300
Los Angeles -- 200
San Francisco -- 225
Seattle -- 200
Minneapolis -- 235

Further, hotel accomodations can be had for $42.50/night at the Travel Lodge in SLC (about 35 minutes to Little Cottonwood Canyon,) for a single adult/queen size bed, OR $51.85 for a room with two double beds (sleeps 4,) if you want to hook up with another person to share costs. I admit I know nothing of camping possibilities in/around SLC. Anyone have info they care to share???

Lastly, rental cars can be had at SLC airport for $60.99/day thru Hertz.com. This will get you a four-wheel drive SUV with unlimited milage. Again, sharing with another will help reduce the cost.

I'll do a similar search for Colorado when I get a chance (later tonight, perhaps.)

Best,

JRB
