Depnds, is it a bouldering comp (as the name boulder morty(')s implies) or is it rowts?

For a bouldering comp I prefer to work the problems to death and relax as I go. It allows for harder and more interesting (well... depends on who's setting regardless) routes because they expect some of them to be red-pointed only, and they don't need people to onsight to set a point gap, so the problems can be hard enough to keep the rif raf (me ) out with the stronger competitors scraping by.

For full routes (sport) the onsight format helps me to push myself on each climb. If you had to work four qualifying routes redpoint format you'd die from exhaustion. It's too much, and it takes too much time to have all of the competitors finish their score card.
