We were at Clark mountain on the 8th of Mar 04 (Still some postholeing thru snow) and found the routes at the first tier didn't relate to what was in the guide book. (LV limestone) We were climbing routes 8 thru 15. Maybe we were on the wrong tier?

It has been a while since I was there. I'm sorry I can't answer your question about the routes. But I am very curious to know how was the conditions up there??? not too cold? still too much snow? I'm planning on making a trip there soon. I'm currently living in Colorado but I used to live in San Diego and a few friends and I would go to Clark on the wkends.

Looked like we were the first there this year as no other tracks in the snow. Still snow on the trail and we did sink in about a foot at times. no snow on the routes at the 1st tier but snow at the base. It really wasn't too cold to climb but the hands got a little cold. take a coat. When you get there compart the routes on the right side of the 1st tier with what's in the book and let me know. We were able to make it to the end of the road with two 2wd vehicles but it was marginal. have fun. great place. We didn't go above the first tier

It sound like you guys had no problem making it to clark with a two wheel drive but what are the chance of a front wheel drive compact car, live a acura integra, of making it successfully to clark mt? Thanks

I didn't say it was no problem to get to the parking, only that we did make it. A 4x4 would be best. Do you know anything about the routes I inquired about with my original post?

If you haven't already, take a look at "Island in the sky" by randy leavitt and others. I'm guessing that guild would be your best bet.

It's a little confusing on that tier because I think some of the routes to the right are newer than your book. also the routes are really close together on the right side. get the book island in the sky.
