Brass nuts are not as durable as their aluminum counter parts, the brass is soft and conforms to the rock. They are not as strong either, but that is usually because they are small compared to the rest of the nut world. Brass nuts may be refered to as micro nuts. I think the smallest brass nut is rated to 2Kn, that is about 440 Lbs. Weak? Yes, but they have thier place in aid climbing. I really like the HB offsets, just placed one on sunday on a practice aid climb, fit perfectly and held my weight. The RP's are nice also, however they dont fit as well in the pin scars. One of my brass nuts is totally tweaked from being extracted from the rock, the wire is way bent at the nut. [ This Message was edited by: radistrad on 2002-04-09 16:47 ]

Brass nuts are wonderful tools for aid climbing. I suppose you could use some of the larger ones for trad protection, but one good fall on a brassie can pretty much destroy it. The large aluminum HB Offsets, though, kick all kinds of ass for both aid and trad.
