Climbing magazine is going to feature a "Super Seven Summits" article in their next issue. This is supposed to be the toughest summits to reach by any means on each of the seven continents by difficulty of the climb, remoteness, danger, etc. They say none of the highest seven made it on the list. Let the speculation begin! A few guesses: N.A.: Huntington or Deborah S.A.: Cerro Torre Asia: K2 or the Ogre

good suggestions bradhill. for the sake of being different: NA - Mt St Elias SA - Chacraraju, Torre Egger Asia - Ogre is a good call. Annapurna because of avalanche danger and death rate?

Well, the issue is out, and we guessed a few: Asia: K2, with a nod to the Ogre and Gasherbrum IV (excluded because could tick this list and have ticked winnners or runners up on several continents.

For Asia I think Makalu because it's the only 8000m that hasn't seen any repetes, but Annapurna has 109 ascents and 55 deaths. Thats pretty high! for NA I think Middle Triple (sp?) peak would be pretty damn hard. [ This Message was edited by: beyond_gravity on 2002-06-10 15:44 ]

Well, the peaks are: North America: Kichatna Spire 6 routes with no repeats. Middle triple is alot like this one but just not quite as hard. Baffin has hard walls but they are easy to get to the top by climbing the backs of them. South America:Torre Egger 6 routes. Antartica: This one was easy to guess. Rakekniven was the peak. Europe: Shkhara. I had never heard of it as I am more into rock more. Africa: Mt. Kenya. Australasia: Mt. Cook. Not a surprise. Asia: K2. I would rather spend time in the trango towers than near this bad boy.

Three words: Anker, Twight, Ogden. If they aint decide by those boys, they aint s--- (pardon the language). Why do I have this opinion? Simple. Anker=Mountaineer Twight=Extreme Ice/Alpinist Ogden=Hard Climber They have my vote. Besides, Climbing Magazine sucks. My opinion, any way. Damn thing is nothing but 80 pages of showcased spray. Well, I have a free subscription, so I can't wait. Between Climbing and the Onion, I'm busy laughing all week! Steve

Also, one last thing. I have quite a few friends in New Zealand due to my uncle living there every year from December to May. They all climb, and hard. I've been to New Zealand and frankly, Mt. Cook isn't anything compared to Mt. French or Mt. Aspiring. Well, that is what the "natives" say, any way. This isn't my opinion. I asked once when I was there that I would like to climb Mt. Cook and they laughed at me and told me to make my trip worth while by climbing something that isn't "in the movies". Two more cents. Another reason I never trust that silly mag. I've found sooooo many things that was wrong. However, I bet it makes a decent article as it is FINALLY about someTHING and not someONE. Everybody, Climb safe and have fun. Steve
