It would almost take an act of God to keep me from going. Heck I will be missing a couple of days of summer school to go. Eh, who needs school anyway? Lucky for me it is only a small 5hr hop skip and a jump. Waugy

There's plenty of beta about the fest at their website. It's a fun time with lots of things to attend, food to eat, and beer to drink. There's actually so much to do that little climbing gets done from what I saw a couple years back. Not that there's anything wrong with that. You'll easily get your $30 worth. It also should be noted that this event tends to make the cliffs a little crowded. If solitude is your wish, then fest week might not be the best week to visit Lander, Wy. Tip: Wild Iris is pretty deserted the day of the trade show/tug-o-war comp.

What is the date on this gathering??> I'll be in Jackson Hole until July. A throw down like this sounds like something I wouldn't want to miss.

Thanks mountianchick. Does anyone know if the clinics are worth the 30-35 dollars. I went to the festival last year but missed all the clinics. I was just wondering. Waugy

I went last year for the first time as the company I work for helps sponsor the event, and was blown away at how cool it was. I have been to numerous festivals and gatherings in the last twenty years, and this event was the best by far. Mellow, great people, awesome climbing, super vibes. I can only say that if there was only one event I was allowed to go to a year, then Lander would be it. Best bang for your buck around! Stop by the trade show and say hi!

Another question: Can anyone give me an idea of what the "substance abuse" situation is like at the festival? Please understand, I'm not some sort of ultra-conservative whatever that looks down on all of it. One of the people I was considering attending with has a history of substance abuse and is making a huge effort (successfully) to get away from it. If there's going to be a lot of smoking or drinking around camp in the evening, then I'm not sure I want to take him there. We'll just climb elsewhere if it'll be a problem.

Depends on where you choose to camp. If you're down in the good sites just below Killer Cave, there will probably be a lot of boozing, toking, etc. If you're out in BFE on BLM land, you might just be all by yourself. Missing some of the night life, but you're here to climb, not party, right? As for me, I'm leaving the friday before the 4th of July (the 2nd I suppose) for Rifle, then heading up to Lander on the 6th, to return to Laramie the morning of the 12th. Should be a good trip.

As petsfed said it all depends on where you camp. If you camp where the festival is held (at the city park), then there is quite a bit of drinking around the camps. As for other substances being used I am not to sure, but I do know that it goes on. I just kinda put my head in the sand about it. So I hope this helps your decision. Waugy :righton:

Thanks guys. I was kinda figuring that half the fun of the festival was camping with everyone else. I'll keep your comments in mind.

Substance usage/abusage would be an issue for me as well. I plan on going, and also plan on having my sons (10 & 14) in tow... thanks for the heads up!

I can't speak for all the climbers at the festival but, from what I experienced last year. Most of them are pretty cool about keeping the illegal substance usage low around children. Also if you just ask them to do it elsewhere or at a later time because if either your friend or your children, they will. I guess it's the bonus to most climbers is that they are very relaxed. Waugy :righton:

Howdy!! I am thinking about moving to lander. I am living in boulder and practice acupuncture/chinese medicine. I may be coming up this weekend 28th through the 1st. or the following weekend. I may be with friends or my self, so, a climbing partner would be great and a place to stay. Also, I am just tring to get a good feel if lander is for me or not. Thanks Marc Arnold 303-717-7972
