Yes that is very sad. Our National Parks which are meant to be known as enviromental friendly habitats for animal and people, not to be known for polution. Lets blame it on Gearge Bush.

In reply to: Lets blame it on Gearge Bush. Yah. He's the one personally driving everyday in all these parks. He cloned himself now there are thousands of the Bastarg Bushes polluting all over the place. You'd better vote for "doesn't know which way he's going" John C.

Most probably know this, but... Leavitt is a serious piece of moral shi_t, like most politicians. Don't expect Leavitt OR the EPA to contribute in any way to the reductions in pollution. Bush and Leavitt have been working hard to reduce the EPA's enforcement authority, and rollback any meaningful industrial pollution regulations. Think the industrial and agricultural cesspools of California's central Valley are going to get a visit from the EPA man any time soon? Think the heavy industry of LA is going to have have to pay for the impacts of their pollution? Well, these are two of the primary causes of the air pollution in California's parks and wilderness areas. Unfortunately, the problems have been addressed, but the causes will continue to be ignored by an intentionally powerless regulatory agency. Thanks, George and Mike (and Gale Norton) Oh, and how about automobiles? Well, congress votes periodically on raising CAFE (company average fuel economy) standards for car manufacturers -- Shocking, however, is the fact that congress still consistently manages to bow to Detroit's plea that an increase in CAFE will put them out of business. Wierd how that whole "big business owns our government" thing works. But, hey, America needs a bunch of soccer moms in Hummers! Goddammitt, I'm mad. Main point, however, is that Bush appointed ex. Utah governor Mike Leavitt to EPA admin. in an orchestrated effort to reduce The EPA's ability to enforce any remaining regulations. As a result, pollution levels and environmental exploitation will continue to increase at an ever faster rate. Cheers!!

Say goodbye to cars in Yosemite Valley. But will we say goodbye to RV's in the Valley? I doubt it.

A couple years ago they closed Zion's Canyon to personal motor travel and implemented a shuttle bus system. I personally think this improved the experience, one can actually hear birds in the trees, instead of cars. Granted, Zions is a very small park relatively speaking and the number of campers inside the park is finite compared to the total visitors each day. Such a system probably wouldn't work as well in a much larger park such as Yellowstone.

I live below RMNP, and the smog visible in the morning/evening is disgusting. Denver is allowed by the Feds to get away with environmental murder -- they have been in violation for three (3) years, and now they have to do something about it by 2007 -- three more years -- or they will get a fine. Of course, they can just buy some pollution vouchers (or whatever the f*ck they are called) from a city that pollutes less, and just keep on dumping. And Excel Energy is going to build like 8 new coal-fired power plants instead of investing in solar, wind, or Biomass 'cause the Washington poopla-heads said they could. That is Bush's understanding of a "sustainable energy policy". Sorry for the spew.

It also cut down on all the noise that lines of cars produce. I am also discusted in the changes for the worse that the Bush administration is causing to our environment. But dont forget that there are too many Republicans in the House and Senate as well. They have added their own damage by approving the budgets and appointsment made by the Bush administration.
