"Lucky" quickdraws sell at MEC for $10 canadian. That's pretty damn cheap for a brand new draw. Does anyone use them? Are they sketchy? Would you recommend them? Just what is this "Lucky" company anyway?

I picked up a few of these for longer trad routes - look at the biners closely they are virtually identical to Metolius biners (only difference is they dont have the fancy polished finish, I was told that the same company makes both). $10 Canadian for a draw is a great deal - go for it. After a little use I decided that I didn't like the slings that come with the draws- there is a funky plastic insert in the sling - so I went out and bought some short dyneema slings instead - so now I have perfect trad draws that are light weight (and didn't cost a lot).

ah, the lucky quickdraw has been hashed over in a previous thread. Okay quickdraw....the first ones i ever bought. Heavy and the action isn't very smooth. I still use them and always rack one just in case i have to leave gear................

i'm in the manufacturing business. it's pretty amazing what the true costs of manufacturing are - much much lower than you'd expect. if a company seems responsible, and they have good suppliers, don't factor cost into your evaluation of their gear. for example, alot of black diamond stuff that gets great reviews from climbing magazine, etc gets those reviews from being their #1 advertiser. that advertising bumps up the cost of their gear a lot. the true functionality of climbing gear is very subjective and depends on what exact purpose the gear is going to be used for. i would trust the lucky draws.

I have several of the Lucky draws. Hoppinbig got it right. They are almost identical to the Metolius draws. I have never had a problem with them. If MEC sells them, they're fine. Especially for people who can't spend $17 or $22 on a single quickdraw. But I have to agree that I didn't like the sling much, so I too made some pretty darn decent trad draws by swapping the slings. Happy buying.

Lucky(pronounced "loo-key) is a spanish company that makes biners for Metolius. They are good 'biners but I personally don't care for them. Just my own opinion, don't like the "feel".
