Hi all, I'm taking roadtrip number 1 in the 2nd week of June and I wonder if Flagstaff is going to be a decent destination for that time of year or if it would be too hot to climb then? Also, what are the best crags (sport or trad) that I don't want to miss? Thanks!

Flag is a great place to be that time of year. It's where all of us low-landers down in Phoenix run to play on the weekends in order to escape the 110+ heat. There is a wide variety of climbing in and around Flag. Paradise Forks if basalt crack climbing is your thing. Routes are moderate to very freakin hard there, and not much for the beginner. The Pit is a nice limestone sport crag with some classic routes in the moderate range. Oakcreek Overlook for some more basalt crack, all top-ropable and a little easier than the Forks. Bouldering at Priest Draw. Mt. Elden has a good variety of climbs, but I haven't been up there -- no idea what the quality is like. Have fun! Ed

Ed, don't forget to mention Winslow wall. It has sprouted many new lines in the last couple years, both trad and sport. It also has a cool river at the bottom. M

Paradise Forks. Come with a healthy respect for the grades but have fun... it's beautiful. June is a great time of year in Flag.
