i was looking at the rules for this one climbing gym and it said "please observe the 3 fall rule" um...sure...yeah...what does that mean? If you fall 3 times you can't climb for the rest of the day? Please answer! Thanks. jm

My guess would be that if you fall off a route 3 times, you should descend and let someone else try it. Just a guess though, I've never seen that one before. Never seen anyone stay on a route for that long at a gym either, but I did once see a guy outside hanging in the same spot for more than 3 hours. His belayer never complained once, either.

I would ask the people in the gym what it means, instead of us, seeing as we're not there. climbchick is probably right, though.

seriously 3 hours, but he was hanging on the rope. Every so often, he'd take another shot at the move, fall off and hang some more. Exact same spot. We climbed all around him (on different routes), took the ropes down, walked off, climbed somewhere else, came back, and he was still there. The belayer was totally zenned out. Or stoned.

Screw them! Three fall rule what do they think you are climbing in a contest? Tell them your an aspiring wigwaller and you are going to use the 3 day rule! Wait till you see the look on thier faces when you set up your portaledge!

Because dynamic ropes lose some elasticity after a fall, and take time to recover, perhaps they want you to come down and at least tie into the other end before possibly falling again. My $0.02 [ This Message was edited by: bshaftoe on 2002-04-20 23:12 ]
