Yeah I think that would probably depend on the building owners and managers. I have made an attempt on a local church that provides a nice 5.10c overhang but I'm fairly sure that it is illegal. My belief...if you don't ask be prepared to get busted and if you do ask be prepared for funny looks, rejection and lots of laughing!!

I almost got suspended in school for climbing the school during lunch. I had saw the climb like two days earlier and had my shoes in my car and climbed away then I had to go to the superintendants office. So yes ask first.

Buildering also includes a little office furniture bouldering... Chairs, picknick tables, desks, roof braces... lots of buildering bouldering problems have been created. One of the reasons buildering is so exciting to so many is because many of the buildings are off limits to climbing making it illegal. FUN FUN HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE TO RUN! lol

Buildering is usually illegal for insurance purposes. The owners of the building dont want to get sued when you fall off and hurt yourself and they are liable. In addition you can get arrested for trespassing and other various heading like disorderly conduct which is what happened to a friend of mine who decided to climb a nearby stone antique shop. Also remember if you damage the building that you are climbing on you can be held laible for the damages. My suggestion is to stay off of buildings that arent owned by you or friends and hit the real rock with some buddies.

It's usually illegal for liability reasons (esp. at schools and other lawyer-retaining entities). If you don't get caught or happen to drink with the local cops then usually that is not important. Otherwise be stealthy. Buildering helped me get to 5.11 (back when I could actually climb that hard, *sigh*)

There's a stone bridge in town I often climb... Right next to it is the fire station. I often see people watching me from the windows. Directly across the river is a busy restaurant-- I often come to school and am told "My parents said they saw you climbing that bridge last night..." I have yet to get in trouble. *shrug*

WE NEED A BUILDERING FORUM and as for my advise on the matter, climb it as if your allowed untill told other wise, ive been kicked off many a city building, all that happens is they ask u to leave and if u do and are nice about it nothing happens, u just have to go down the road to the next building. this way u always get a crack a building, rather than being banned before climbing "that problem" that u always wanted to. joe
