This weekend at the California Needles Herb Laeger accidently left his guidebook at the notch next to his partners hat. Last spotted Sunday nite by the last climbers in the area, Herb asked us to take a look for it in the morning. We found the hat but no guidebook. Someone has in their possesion Herb's guidebook. Please contact me and I will see about getting it returned to Herb. No questions asked. The guidebook has Laeger written across the front and back. It contains mucho valuable Beta for the Needles currently not in print that is intended for Patrick Pauls new Needles book. Herb is the FA for many of the classic routes in the Needles.......that bolt you clipped this weekend, Herb put that in. You can thank him by returning the guidebook. The return of the guidebook will facilitate getting a new Needles guide published so you will be doing a favor for any climbers planning on going to the Needles.

To not return this guidebook would be about as bad a karma decision as you could ever make. Lets make sure this story has a happy ending.

In reply to: that bolt you clipped this weekend, Herb put that in. Uhh, I don't clip bolts. But if I did, and I knew who took Herb's book I would kick their butt. That guy is a legend, and if you have an old copy of the Josh book, then you will see that most of the Laeger lines have multiple stars. The man doesn't put up bad routes. Please return this book. It's not yours, and besides, Art needs to photocopy the beta in it so he can have even a slight chance of climbing in the Needles :) TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

Paul I know you've done Heart and Sole in Echo cove at J-tree which incidently was put up by Herb. So unless you skipped all 3 bolts on the route you've clipped some of Herb's bolts

Nor do I need any beta to climb at the Needles......what I do need is a mule to carry my stuff.

Well I didn't skip the bolts, but I did almost wet myself getting to the first one. Got the route onsight though. And I would be happy to be your mule (but not your sheep) if you can get your Clean and Jerkin' self to be my ropegun out there. Wanna climb at Tahquitz this saturday? TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

Please ask Herb (for me) how he was dumb enough to lose his guidebook. We put up a few routes together 20 or so years ago. He's too old to be climbing anyway. Haha. Curt

I guarantee by the time I'm old as the hills, I'll be moving like it, too. Hey boys! Come get me while I'm hot! And find Herb's book while you're at it!
