I will be visiting my folks in The Springs in about a month, but have not been able to get get any good info on climbing in the Garden. I have been there numerous times, but never been able to climb. What are some good route guides, and do ya'll have any other info that could help?

Good luck on your trip to the Springs. When you get to the Garden of the Gods go to the Visitors Center. Once your there you will need to register with them as a climber. After that's finished, they will give you a map of the locations of where you can climb. I've always enjoyed climbing there-- the tourist spend more time watching us climbers than looking at the rocks. It can get a bit nerve racking with an audience-- but it's all good. Enjoy!!!

I did Cowboy Boot Crack recently. Not real hard but I enjoyed it. Only a 5.6 but was my first crack. Montezumas Tower is popular. I haven't done it yet but hope to get around to it one day. It's only 5.7 but is very exposed and goes up 150'. You can rappell off of it with two ropes. There is a book by Ric Geiman called Garden Guide and Falcon Guide puts out a book of climbing in the Garden also. They also have some bouldering at the Snake Pit and a couple of other places. I'm just a beginner but I'm sure there are some experienced people on here that can give you a lot more information on the Garden.

The earlier post by climbingrules is right about the welcome center as well as anykineclimb about the database. One other thing to consider is while the Garden is nice because it's right here in the Springs there are a lot of climbing areas around here that are much more enjoyable depending on the type of climbing your interested in doing. Shelf Road is only 45 minutes to an hour and has hundreds of sport routes which it sounds like your interested in. I climb there almost every saturday so PM me if your interested.

I spent quite a bit of time at GOG a couple of summers ago. It's a pretty incredible place to climb. The book i have is "soft touch iii, a climber's guide to gog". Pretty good book. Hard to understand until you're looking at the rocks to match up some features, but seems to be pretty comprehensive. Montezuma's tower is a great climb.

I picked up Front Range Topropes at REI. It had a lot of the shorter routes in it for the Springs. The map you get when you register doesn't have much info about routes on it. I only played on a few TR routes, but saw several multi pitch climbs being done. I'm sure, as previously posted, the RDB here has a lot.

If you do hit Shelf Road, I just got a book of routes that I ordered from REI. "Shelf Road's Cactus Cliff, Spiney Ridge and the "New" Gym" by Rick Thompson. I've yet to do my first sport route but got this book to find the "easier" ones that I want to start out on. Unfortunately, the guy I started climbing with took a fall in Moab so I have to get a new partner until he's healed up.

I'm planning a climb trip to the garden in October, just wanted to see if any one is available to take someone trad climbing (I can lead 5.9+ trad right now, hopefully higher by then). I have all the gear and I will be bringing ropes, webbing, nuts, and set of tech friends, big bros, ball nutz and hopefully by then some link and max cams as well. I want to get a full dose of the garden for the week that I come out. If anyone is interested send my a PM thanks. It will be the last week in october.
