Is redrocks or anything around vegas climbable in the summer. Can clims be found to climb that wont involve baking my skull, or at least not to badly. I am heading home(Canada) for a month holiday the first two weeks will be spent in the squamish area climbing, then I will spend a week in vegas for a friends wedding 10, 11, 12, and 13 will be spent with them. But I want to climb on the 8th, 9th and possibly the 10th as well. I will arrive on the night of the 7th. Anyone interested in climbing during that period. If its too hot I have just made a disasterous mistake since I am not a gambler and will now miss 2 or 3 days that could of been spent enjoying myself in squamish.

what level do you climb? Do you climb mostly sport or trad? Yes, it's climbable in the summer, you just have to know the right spots

most of the RR area will be out of the question for climbing. there is some multipitch trad (BV Canyon area) and some sport. Most of the sport will need to be climbed in the very early morning hours (6am-9am), though there are a couple of places that you can climb pretty much all day. if you climb sport, Charleston is your best option, as temps rarely get past the 80's there...

I climb mostly sport, but have bought trad gear and will be climbing on it for the better part of three weeks minimium in squamish before going. What I can or can not lead are a different question. Would any of you be willing to climb on those days? Any place you feel is suitable is Okay by me. I need to decide if I should change my ticket again. Bryan

There is a lot of limestone climbing at 7,500-8,000 feet.

So, the bottom line is that as long as I can find some people to climb with, there are places to climb. So without sounding totally pathetic, would any of you like to climb with me. I know I am making this seem a bit rushed- August is still along ways off- but unfortunately I need to finalize my ticket soon, perhaps by the end of the day. Here (OSAKA, JAPAN) it is now 130pm Saturday afternoon- I am sure that I have already probably pissed of my travel agent with all my switching about(friend or not-perhaps not after all of this), and he is currently about to finalize my ticket for the 7th- meaning I will be there three days before my friend (the one getting married) arrives. I just dont want to get stuck in Vegas with nothing to do but gamble....I am sure they wouldn't take my gear at the pawn shops anyhow...........Would one or more or any of you like to climb the 8th and 9th and perhaps the 10th. Any type of climb is good. But low grade multi pitched trad would be ideal though. I arrive on the night of the 7th and would rent a car (or pay for gas and beer) and try to make my way to a camp site near the climbing loaction. I would probably need to be back in vegas by the night of the 9th or afternoon of the 10th. I am operating a little blind since I know very little about that part of the states. Although i have been to quite a few states, the only western ones I've been to were Oregon and Alasaka...both extremely wild and beautiful. I hear nevada is no exception.............I am a little worried about rattlers though.

Camping will be a problem for you. Due to the heat, 13 mile campground (the only legal campground near Red Rock) closes from June 1 - Sept 1. As for climbing, I only have weekends off and am out of town that weekend. Good luck though. There are many people from Vegas on this site.

Don't know that there are any. There is camping up at Mt. Charleston not far from the hood area. The area is fun, but is really hard sport climbing. Beautiful up there though.

Thank you very much vegastradguy and climbs4fun, I think I will go back to my original arrival date(if not to late)of the 9th and spend those saved days in squamish. You simply confirmed some of my doubts, but I went on a whim and then searched for info, ass backwards, none the less i now can make a more informed choice. thanks again Bryan
