Hi, I am staying near Winthrop for a few days. I have a crash pad and plenty of gear and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on climbing/boulder (probably bouldering since I'm on my own) near here. I was thinking Levensworth would be the place to go, but I have no idea where I'm headed. I would love some info if possible. Maybe just a boulder area and beta on a few problems. I once saw a picture of like a V2 roof crack in Levensworth. I would love to do that if anyone knows where it is. Thanks. Elliott

I visit the Methow valley, and Winthrop frequently, and if you really want to climb for a few days, then making the two hour trip to Leavenworth might be worth the climbing there. However, if you just want to climb for a day. Then go out to Mazama, which is about 14 miles north of winthrop on highway 20. Once in the tiny town of Mazama travel north again on Lost River Road for about 15 minutes until you see the rock buttress which nearly reaches the road. There is also a sighn marking "climber's parking." Here you will find so fairly good quality climbing, with about 85% of the routes being bolted sport routes. There is bouldering surrounding the crag in different areas, all within a five minute walk from the crag. Also, if you contiue down lost river road, you will encounter a semi-cleared area which contains some smallish blocks, worthy of a half-days worth of bouldering. Enjoy
