I will be going to Galinburg TN coming from Raleigh NC in a week and a half, and I want to try something new near Gatlinburg. I have already checked the website, but I was looking for some local input on the best places to climb. I have not climbed some of the NC climbing near there either. I only have a day and I want to make it count. Thanks.

You're not going to be near any major areas. There is some development over at Big Creek which is about an hour drive down a curvy gravel road from Gatlinburg. You could drive to the obed, it's probably the closest big area but it's about 2.5 hours away. OR, you could leave the gear at home, and enjoy the bars in Gatlinburg! (My suggestion.)

Hey. I live in Sevierville which is 5 minutes from Gatlinburg. There is good news and bad news. There is no awesome climbing in Gatlinburg or really close by. But the good news is that you have many great places that are just a couple hours away if your willing to drive that far. One of the best and probably the closest is the Obed. From sevierville it is around 2 hours away. It has plenty of routes there to keep you busy. Enjoy your stay!

[quote="flashsixteen"]to Galinburg TN coming from Raleigh NC In reply to: Sounds like the second half of that statement is the key--will you have time to stop in western NC for any period of time? There is a plethora of granite to be had. Trad, aid, bouldering...
