Hi everyone, My partner and I are flying into Delhi in Sept. and are thinking about bringing some climbing gear. We will be in India for about a month. Can anyone dish out some beta on the most worthwhile climbing/bouldering excursions for that time of year--we prefer to be in small towns... We're trying to decide whether to bother bringing all of our trad gear or just a sport rack or just shoes and a chalkbag. Any info anyone could give me would be much appreciated! Thanks so much... -John Tennant

www.climbingindia.com not updated often but has a little info... delhi has some trad and bouldering; guidebook's available at IMF. try the climbing store across the road. bangalore and nearby areas in south india for trad, sport and bouldering. way up north, tons of unclimbed stuff..

Hey, I've climbed and guided over in the Manali area for a couple years and I can recomend the Chandra river valley for bouldering and climbing. It's right over Rotang pass and should be great in September. The boulders range from car size to house size and most have great river gravel landings... sound too good to be true? I thought so to but it's about the best place I've ever seen. Miles and miles of solid rock.

hey plenty of places all over india to climb. anyway - a tip - get your trad rack. Sport climbing isnt really done here. You can go down the Milam glacier route. Huge rocks near bugdiar.

I have just moved to Delhi, and am working for an NGO in Tughlaqabad. I have heard rumours that there is some good climbing here. Does anyone know about this? Are there any indoor rock gyms in Delhi near South Ex II?

Firstly, you should spend as little time in Delhi as possible and agree on a price before entering the autorickshaws. Manali is a lovely spot to visit and there are pently of tour agents that could show you the best spots. The bus trip up, is interesting, make sure your on the nicest bus you can afford. It's not pleasant traveling for 18 hours in a cramped seat I can tell you. Good luck and enjoy yourself. You should go see the tiger while your there. Very cool.
