Hi... I lived in the Bend/Redmond area..(closer to Tumulo)for the first seven years of my life..amazingly enough I have vivid memories from then. That icecream shop for instance was there then (this would be around 20 years later) the now gear shop was a catchall store..of candy..and i recall fishing items.. but most importantly was the icecream! I was pleased that they didn't do away with the icecream even after this many years. This is where my first memories of climbing come from...when we would get home I would spend hours climbing trees in our yard...I must have been insppired...can you believe i still haven't done regular outdoor roped climbiing yet..bouldering yes...major scrambling probably should have been roped...and some gym stuff. I have been back to that area a few times as an adult..and hiked the area..I still love it..it still takes my breath away and i still find myself looking for things to climb after being there. Well the time might well be at hand this summer. My husbands work is takinghim to redmond area towards the end of July and I plan on tagging along and spending some quality time at Smith Rock. I was thinking about looking into a one on one guide climb/lesson for some simple toproping at Smith Park. If anyone has any info along these lines let me know. I would love my first "real" outdoor roped climb to be at this beautiful place..the first place I witnessed climbing over twenty years ago... Thanks
