I'm considering taking a li'l trip down from the D.C. 'burbs to Moorman's boulders. I've read some conflicting things, though, that make it unclear whether the area has enough easy -- V2 or under -- problems to make it worth the drive. Can any Virginians shed a little light?

If you are going from DC area then I suggest that you head to Harrisonburg (2-2.5 hrs) or Cooper's Rocks (3hrs) instead. The drive isn't much longer and there are much more to do there. But to answer your question, Moorman has about 4-5 boulders there but you can only climb 1 side of each boulder. ONe boulder has a large overhangging face with many many holds (big ones) on it. I would say that there are plenty of V0-V2 there. Two other boulders near the road have some very interesting problems but not easy (slopeys and tiny crimpers). The rest of the boulders don't have anything that special.

Hey man if you are going to come to harrisonburg PM me and I can show you around or there is a route guide you can buy at the local climbing shop here that is pretty good. There is a lot of easy stuff, there is stuff up around V10 as well though. Good luck.
