everything is out of print, but you may still be able to get them locally or used from amazon. give granite rocks in hill city a call. the rushmore guidebook is by vern phinney and is quite good. all other guidebooks for rushmore are crap, but can get you by. the only real needles guidebook is touch the sky by paul piana and is something of a collector's item now. it won't have many of the newer sport routes, but has some of the old classics. www.climbingblackhills.com has some good info. locals are plentiful and helpful at rushmore and the needles. there is a long standing tradition of asking where things are because the complex forest of spires makes writing guidebooks difficult. rushmore is definitely your best bet for sport climbing, and also check out spearfish canyon in the northern hills for some steep limestone.

I would definitely check out Spearfish Canyon. The climbing there is supposed to be excellent. Rushmore is decent for sport climbing but you are better off going trad in Custer park.

Mountain sports here in Boulder is going out of business. I checked out there guide book selection, and they have the Poor man’s guide to the Needles, Spearfish canyon, and the Rushmore guide. I remember the last time I visited the Black Hills area; most of the guides were out of print. If anyone wants copies, I will buy them ands ship them to you. Just send me a PM.
