Duct taping what on your shoes?
Taping the laces, the soles, or what...
I assume that taping the soles would greatly decrease their performance, and ruin the rubber. I don't suggest it.

I imagine he means to duct tape the laces. Errmmmm....thats the only sound place to tape up, but even then, I don't know how that would help. My shoes have never untied.
I guess it would almost the same as the velcro shoes with the adjustibility of laces, but still not the speed of taking them on and off.

keep the duct tape away from your shoes, it will leave nasty sticky residue, and i can't think of any logical reason to put it anywhere on your shoes

Maybe use crazy glue to put some duct tape sticky side out on the soles of your climbing shoes so you can really do some weird slab climbing - Look ma, no hands.

Clam, you stole my idea! Actually, I was going to suggest wrapping the tape tight, sticky side out. But crazy glue, or even folding the edges back would be better.
A while back, a poster said that his Gatorade bottle exploded in the haul bag, soaking everything. He said that it turned the rubber on his shoes to Super Glue. I would guess that you'd have to wash the old Gatorade off occasionally and retreat the soles, when dirt started to stick.
If there is resolers out there listening, maybe they can experiment with some scraps and post the definitive piece on Gatorade-enhanced rubber. I'm going to try it myself, knowing that I can wash it off if it sucks.

I know of someone who has done this, we have a granite roof that is very hard on the shoes and his EBs were getting shredded, so he put duct tape on the canvas itself to prevent the shredding, end of problem!

Dude just get them re-soled thru the Rubber Room! Way cheaper than buying new shoes, and they perform like new afterwards!!

I always keep a couple of rolls of duct tape with my gear just in case. Once I forgot my helmet....

hmmm... duct tape? i have'nt yet tried.. but the soles of my shoes recently did start tearing up.
The pivoting toe area especailly and what's more i have a competition this FRiday.
You know what i did? I double sided taped my soles back on...
Have'nt tried it though.. still waiting. I just hope the whole shoe does'nt fails during my climbs...
