Doing a massive road trip starting 8/7 and plan to stop at Rusmore on the way to Devil's Tower. Looking for climbing and free camping in the area for a day or 2. Also does anyone have any beta on free camping near the tower?

Appreciate the news

Windy Point is the place you are looking for at Rushmore. It least it was free when I was there last which was about 8 years ago. I don't know of any free camping around Devils Tower. Perhaps some of the more local types will have some advice for you. It wasn't very expensive from what I remember anyway.

Never found a good camping area at Rushmore, but me and my boyfriend did some "overnight parking" at a nearby trailhead. Next vehicle that I get is going to be something that I can sleep in the back of for sure!

In the same parking lot we spied another truck parked over night. Met the inhabitants of the truck a few days later at Devils Tower (also climbers).

I don't think there's any where really close to Devil's Tower to camp for free.
