This is only for the people that have visited the crag in the past and are interested in getting it re-opened. Please don't get on and ask for directions.

With that being said, as you propably already know HV was closed early this year for a variety of reasons. I have not been back since late may, but I assume that the valley is still closed. Also to my knowledge nobody has done anything to get the area re-opened. So basically, I took the liberty of contacting the access fund on this issue and in the process have learned a couple different ways of solving the access issue. What I would like to gain from this post is simple. If you are a member or nonmember of the local climbing commmunity (or lackthereof) and are farmiliar with the valley leave a post or pm me. I would like to know specifically your take on the current situation/ what (if anything) are you willing to do to help. Also, it would be especially nice to find people with close ties to Koma and Jannean to act as a representitive of the local climbers intentions-solutions etc. to the access problems. My goal here is to get people organized and convince Jannean and Koma that climbers are their allies in this mess not rule-breakers/vandals of their property. I will be back in the area later this month and would like to possibly get together and meet up with people and get the ball rolling. Thanks.

bradley -

I haven't climbed there, but I've been wanting to get there ever since I got back into climbing last fall. I've followed the discussion on the access issues. I've seen posts here and CCC regarding the situation.

I don't fit the description of "someone familiar with the area" as it was closed before I had a chance to get there, but I am very eager to see it re-opened.

Perhaps this September, in conjunction with the Access Fund Adopt-a-Crag activities, climbers can volunteer to do the work that would be necessary in order to get this place re-opened. I am willing to give support in any efforts.

As far as finding climbers with connections to Komo, I know there are some on rc.com and you can also find them looking at CCC. Good luck with this, and let me know (PM if you wish) if there's any way I can help the situation.

Of course, if I'm not invited in this, I suppose I'll get over it.
Just a shame because I'd heard good things about the area.

Hi, I now that this post is old, but I have recently stumbled across this forum and this really caught my eye...I live in Bristol and use to climb in Hidden Valley till about a year ago (just got back from Col.) When I got back a friend of mine who lives up there in Abington told me about the situation, he had though about buying all of the property so that Koma wouldn't have to deal with it...but it has been a while since I have contacted anyone about this, I have been in and out of town here lately...so, to the point...

Has anything else been said or done about the matter...?
Is there anything I can help with, I live so close to HV...?

I know Gus very well and have met Koma multiple times.

The closure is still very much in effect and will not change.

Certain individuals flagrantly disrespected the rules as well as basic decency, and the closure is the result.

We've all waited with baited breath for 8 years for a response!

I'm happy to give the update, although I wish it was more positive for others.

me thinks you missed the sarcasms.

We're all very happy that you've systematically published the bleak news on every thread on RC.com concerning HV, in most cases years after the OP.

What are Virginas laws on climbing in state parks. I live near a few areas and have been climbing there for a while now with no clue on if it is legal or not, BTW there are plenty of great areas around Abingdon to climb at if you just look around.

You would do well to start a new thread in VA regional forum or Access Issues. Maybe introduce yourself and use 'search' and google.
