BIG Metolius and Black Diamond Rack for Sale - NEW!!

Can't Post

I'm selling a big rack of shiny gear.

It includes:

1 - Metolius Adj. Gear Sling
1 - Black Diamond 120cm x 16mm spectra sling
1 - Black Diamond nut tool
5 - 5" Enduro Quickdraws
15 - Black Diamond Quicksilver II bent and straight gate carabiners
1 - Black Diamond Big Easy carabiner
1 set Metololius Curved Nuts 1-10
1 set Black Diamond micro stoppers 1-6
Metolius Powercams 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Metolius TCUs 00, 0, 4

This gear is all new, unused and in perfect condition (see pics below). Most of it still has the tags on it. These are not the "range finder" cams (thank goodness) they are the normal ones. This would make a good comprehensive free climbing rack for somebody, or a good start to an aid/wall rack.

I would MUCH prefer to sell this rack all together (I hate dealing with all the shipping, etc.), so anybody who offers for the whole kit will get preference. I will sell it for $850.00 shipped.

Here are some pics:

PM me with any questions and what not.

Wow, THANK YOU for the brilliant oberservation theishofoz (WTF????) :?:

Yes, as I pointed out in the description, some of them still have the tags on...as it is all NEW and UNUSED (which I also pointed out in the title AND in the description. But maybe you missed that?).

No, I did not "steal all that stuff."

Well, since you and the teenager (theishofoz, above) seem flustered as to why I'm getting rid of such a nice rack...here is the reason: I'm trying to get some money together to buy a ring. I bought this rack last winter to do a complete swap-out with my old one, but I've done way less climbing this season than in years past and so it has not yet left my closet. I've also fallen in love with a beautiful woman (who loves me even though I'm an ageing trad-hog, have an old beat-up rack, and have no money)...so, I'm gonna cash in the new gear for a ring and suprise her. She doesn't read rc.com forums, so she won't find out here (and those of you that know her, lets keep our mouths shut, eh  !?!)

So, in front of God and everybody, that's the scoop.

Dude, come to your senses here. I would keep your gear and buy a smaller ring. That way if she leaves you and takes half your shit after a divorce, you will still have half your rack. , Seriously though congrats.

Looks like a sweet rack, I agree with the previous guy about the ring vs. the rack.

:( How depressing…doesn’t anybody believe in true love anymore??

I’ll just be sure and cover this in the pre-nup, right? “Blah, blah, blah...ring will be hawked and rack must be purchased and divided equally between the two parties.” I’m sure when the time comes I can get some pointers from you lawyer types out there…

Besides, half this rack’s already worth more than all the rest of my s--- put together, (trust me, if I could get more than $250 for the old Pontiac, I would sell that…she doesn’t want any of my old stuff, let alone half of it!).

Maybe this is common knowledge to the rest of you, but I recently learned (in a shopping experience that was akin to being punched in the gut  ) that in order to buy a diamond large enough to see with the naked you have to throw down some real money. And since the IDEA is that the ring will last for the rest of my[our] life (despite you naysayers…!), I say spend the dough, I can get a new rack next season.

Sell the old rack, buy a smaller (or paste) ring, KEEP THE NEW RACK, and put it in the prenup. The ONLY good reason to sell the new rack would be to buy her a new rack(if you know what I mean!), not a ring. Please reconsider.

Um, so far, thanks for most of the advice. I do appreciate the input, as one really never knows for sure what the right thing to do in these situations is.

My response to a few of the comments above: She doesn't NEED a new rack, she's doing just fine as it is. The fake diamond thing, well, I'll have to fall back on what a good married friend of mine (who bought a cheap ring) told me "Buy an expensive ring, cause then down the road when you start feeling like this whole married this isn't worth sh*t you can look down at your fingers and figure that atleast there is some objective value to the relationship."

In addition to the wise (and I'm sure loving and magnanimous) advice I've received so far, I wonder what any women out there think? So far all the men have voted for cheap-ring-nice-gear. Also, please remember that I do STILL HAVE A RACK FOR SALE!!

Diamond is the hardest substance known. If you jam it in a crack like a micro-chockstone and put a sling around it, it's gotta be bomber.

I personally would be touched, but being a fellow climber, I'd smack you for wasting the money on a ring. I'm not a big fan of the engagement ring thing - chickies never wear it after they get married anyway. But that's me. :) It's a wonderful gesture of sacrifice and commitment on your part.

Go with the multipurpose ring. Get an engagement ring/wedding band all in one.

Is there anybody out there that actually thinks this is a good idea?

grover...that may not be beneath me to do. Since I've already been accused of stealing this rack, might as well trade it for a black market ring !

maculated...thanks for giving me a little props, maybe I should reconsider? She doesn't wear much jewelry, and she's a climber...but I still think she might appreciate a pretty ring. Plus, it's the last thing in the world she'd expect an aesthetically-challenged fellow like myself to ever think of buying, so the look on her face will be priceless (even if it's a look of "what the hell were you thinking!") :righton: I'm still not sure what an $800 ring is going to look like, but it should be enough to get a reaction.

I'm sticking to my guns here, THE RACK IS STILL FOR SALE. If you have any actual questions about the rack (and not my personal life :) ) please send me a PM. Also, thanks to the guy who sent the PM recommending bluenile.com, I'm always looking for deals!

For what it's worth, my wife wears her ring and loves it. Not all the time, but often enough. Been married a dozen years plus, and I still get a smile out of seeing it sparkle when we go out to dinner or whatever.

The person is way more important than the ring, but having a symbol or two in your relationship isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As for the rack, I'm not a Metolius cam user except for the smaller TCUs as doubles for my Aliens, and in any case there's no way I'm paying shipping to Tokyo. Nonetheless, that's a nice solid rack waiting for somebody, so all I can do is wish you good luck!

1 - Metolius Adj. Gear Sling - $30
1 - Black Diamond 120cm x 16mm spectra sling - $15
1 - Black Diamond nut tool - $5
5 - 5" Enduro Quickdraws - $50
15 - Black Diamond Quicksilver II bent and straight gate carabiners - $60
1 - Black Diamond Big Easy carabiner $10
1 set Metololius Curved Nuts 1-10 - $40
1 set Black Diamond micro stoppers 1-6 - $30
Metolius Powercams 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 - 10 @ $30 = $300
Metolius TCUs 00, 0, 4 - 3 @ 30 = $90

selling your trad rack for a ring... priceless

PS. dude not many people are going to drop $850, split up the gear or reduce the price. I know some of the gear is new but $850 is pushing it. If I wanted to pay new price for new gear I would go to a store.

PPS. Jobs also help with paying for stuff, maybe get a second one or a first one. Also why not sit down and talk about the future of the relationship with her? It feels good to be "loved" but I would talk about marriage before buying a ring. Then maybe you can put away money slowly rather than selling your rack. Do not let "love" cloud your judgement or make you impulsive. Keep your rack and cook her dinner or give her a nice massage instead, buy her flowers maybe.

The guy should make up his own mind about whether or not to buy the love of his life a ring. Trying to talk him out of it is ridiculous, especially if you don't know his future fiancee and their relationship. Only he can make that decision.

I will agree with some of the others that the ring doesn't have to be a big, expensive job. If she loves you, it won't matter. I proposed to my wife with a cherry ring pop, and she still said yes. Then I brought out the real ring :) She still wears it every day, except when we climb. It's not big, it wasn't ridiculously expensive, but she loves it. It's a symbol of my commitment to her. I wouldn't have proposed in the first place if she were the type of woman who requires a two carat kaleidoscope on her finger.

I also agree with the poster who said to break the rack up. You're going to have a lot of trouble finding someone who'll plunk down $850 at a pop.

-Joe
