what kind of gear is needed to set up a good top rope in the Palisades
and it would be nice if I could get some pointers too. I'd like to try setting up my own before the nice days of summer are gone.

Dynamic rope 35meters or longer
a couple 20ft pieces of 1" webbing or some slings
a 20ft piece of cordelette
a 20-25ft piece of static rope to join anchors
assorted hexes, nuts or cams
6 carabiners or so
2 larger carabiners (including a locking biner) to run your rope through.

You can setup good anchors in many places at Palisades with webbing by slinging a strong tree or many large slabs of stone. Lots of cracks where you can use tapered nuts. I am not an expert by any means, but I have had some training time with a cerified instructor. PM me back, we can head over there and practice setting up some anchors. Don't worry about having everything you need right away, I have some extra pieces parts. :D
