Initially the post was a blatent advertisement posted in the wrong area, I appologize for that. :D So anyway I'll turn this into a legit forum. For all that strictly boulder, what is your take on how yoga practice affects or could increase your bouldering? I can honestly say that since I've been practicing yoga very regularly, I went from using a moderate amount of effort to send V5 to bouldering very quickly v7-v8. Just wondering? Thank You.

yoga is all about body awareness- a sense heightened by putting your body into diffiuclt positions, keeping calm, still and strong. This feels a lot like climbing to me. Specific strengths (like hand strength) aren't trained, but many poses - like the crow and peacock - involve stretching your forearms, which is a bonus. Co-ordinating breath and movement is helpful too. plus i just feel all zen and groovy when I practise :)

there was a bouldering problem that i intially couldn't do because of lack of hip flexibility. after a month or two of yoga, i sent it.

Any practice that targets your climbing weaknesses or general fitness weaknesses will help improve your climbing ability. If your weakness is flexibility, ability to feel imbalance coming or weaknesses similar to the above, then something such as yoga will help your climbing ability. For me, my previous sport was martial arts, where I was (& still am)extremely flexible and 'in touch' with bodies balance, so yoga wouldn't necessarily improve my ability Work your weaknesses

Yoga is excellent for tuning technique and working on flexibility. Now that I am at college, I've enrolled in a yoga class to work on my flexibility. I've talked to a few climbing buddies of mine who have enrolled in it and each one has told me that yoga has improved their climbing abilties.

my mum is a yoga teacher and she is super flexiable but she lacks the strength part of climbing. she have prefect contral over he breathing a movement but she just cant stick the holds when she gets the small pinchs and such. so a combination of yoga and climb would work well but just doin yoga isnt goin 2 make you a good climber. there is other stuff involved also.

yoga definitely helps, especially with hard mantles. The poses where you balance on your hands help develop pushing strength and balance for mantles, where oftentimes you may have most of your weight on one arm while you get your feet up. At least, this is what I have found.

Yoga is a good way to train both the mind and the body. Several people have already mentioned the flexibility issues. It also helps with breathing. Being in control of your breathing, as trivial as it sounds can make or break you in some situations. On top of that Yoga trains the mind into a calm sort of state where muscle memory and such take over, which is always important in climbing. That said of course you also just have to get on rock and climb, accept no substitutes.
